dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/local-sport/west-lothian-see-new-edinburgh- 29 JUN 2022 West Lothian to see new Edinburgh Monarchs stadium as the Speedway team prepare to move bases. The new stadium could finish construction in Spring 2023, if all goes according to planA new stadium is set to be built in Livingston for Spring 2023 to host the Edinburgh Monarchs Speedway team as they move from Armadale Stadium. It was announced yesterday, June 29, by the Edinburgh Monarchs that there are plans in place to construct a motorcycle speedway stadium in Deans Industrial Estate in Livingston, just off the M8 junction 3A. ‘West Lothian Community Stadium’ is set to host a range of projects and youth initiatives creating new opportunities for the local community. Development Director Gordon Campbell said:"For years we have aimed to secure the future of the Monarchs - today's announcement is a massive step towards this. "West Lothian Council has been supportive of our efforts so far but there is still much work to be done to deliver the stadium. "Following detailed discussions with West Lothian Council, the site has been selected for its ease of access while also being in a place that will cause no disruption to local residents.” “We will need the continued backing of the local community and the Council to secure the site for our use, to support the project through the Planning Application process, and to construct the stadium. "West Lothian Community Stadium is a massively exciting development for the Monarchs and for West Lothian.” It is set to have a capacity of 1500 with plans in place to construct the stadium to allow ‘uninterrupted viewing’ of the 260 metre speedway track - capable of hosting world events. A youth training track will also be constructed for the Monarchs Speedway Academy - facilities for community activities will also be incorporated into the multi-use areas of the stadium. Community activity will be a significant part of the regular operation of the stadium - with a broad base of projects already lined up. Development will take a phased approach determined by available funds - and the speedway team are currently seeking funding to take on the future stages of the stadium development. Monarchs Co-Promoter John Campbell said: "We will need the continued backing of the local community and the Council to secure the site for our use, to support the project through the Planning Application process, and to construct the stadium. "We will also continue our efforts to secure as much funding as possible to build the best stadium we can for our fans and for the community. "We would be pleased to hear from any businesses or interested persons with the ability to add funds or relevant skills to help construct the stadium. "This is an immensely exciting project and we believe it will capture the imagination of the local community, of Monarchs fans, and of the wider speedway public to support us along the way."

Speedway GP star Dan Bewley admits he will have “a tear in my eye” as he returns to first professional club Edinburgh for what could be Monarchs’ last-ever meeting on Saturday evening.
Bewley started his racing career with the Belle Vue Colts in the British National League in 2016, but his heroics in Manchester quickly saw him snapped up by SGB Championship side Edinburgh that year.
It was the start of an incredible journey that culminated in Bewley ending the country’s 15-year wait for a home winner of the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff on August 13, before he made it back-to-back victories at the Betard FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw two weeks later.
FIM Speedway of Nations world champion Bewley returned to Scotland earlier this summer to finish second at the FIM GP Challenge in Glasgow, securing his SGP spot for 2023.
But Edinburgh also holds fond memories for the Cumbrian. Armadale stages the Ratho Coaches Scottish Open tonight, which could be the stadium’s last-ever speedway event, with the venue set to be sold off.
Despite exciting plans for a new West Lothian Community Stadium suffering a major setback when Monarchs lost out in the battle to secure the site they identified, Bewley hopes the Monarchs realise their dream of finding a new home.

Grand Final: Masters, Bewley, Worrall (R), Pickering (FX) 64.1
Comments: Masters gates tight between the front 3 with Pickering and Bewley chasing. Track conditions tricky with the rain and Pickering comes down bend 3 lap 1. Pickering excluded. Re-Run: FTG, and a very fitting winner. Richie packed up lap 3 from the back.

Didn't know that this had already fallen on the run to the first fence, but plan, work to do and a request for funding and people to help did set the alarm bells ringing. It was all very Mick Horton Fengate Motorsport Complex: and that's where it lies!

It was all very Mick Horton Fengate Motorsport Complex: and that's where it lies! ‘lies’, that’s an appropriate word. This fell through a few months ago so the word was no Edinburgh in 2023. Although I’ve since read a few on the BSF saying they will be riding next year. The positive is none of them was flappy.

Although I’ve since read a few on the BSF saying they will be riding next year. The positive is none of them was flappy. Flappy Superfan on speed There are times when a press release and artists impression do come to fruition in this increasingly mental world but see it attached to speedway with the local council mentioned then, as Arthur Daley said, the chance of it happening are about as likely as Crystal Palace winning the European Cup (Champions League in today's money) Nothing on their website about 2023? Looks like clinging on to Armadale for a year (much like our situation) is what the BSF is clinging to?Monarchs bosses have vowed to fight on to bring the team back to the tapes following the recent devastating news that West Lothian Community Stadium would not be built in time for 2023.Since the news broke last month, Monarchs have been continuing to explore every possible avenue to keep the team on track for the 2023 season. Monarchs Co-Promoter John Campbell explained, "The project to secure the long-term future of the Monarchs has been ongoing for some time now. Armadale Stadium has been a wonderful home for the Club but has never offered the long-term security we need. "West Lothian Community Stadium was a fantastic proposal, and it was devastating that things did not go our way with it. However, we still have the plan and our determination to deliver it is unlimited." It was announced earlier this year that Armadale Stadium would no longer be available beyond the 2022 season, Campbell continued, "When we were informed about the impending closure of Armadale Stadium, we accelerated our work to secure an alternative. With West Lothian Community Stadium falling through it is clear that time is not on our side to secure a venue for the 2023 season. "The only real option for 2023 is Armadale Stadium. While it is still standing, we are continuing discussions to identify if there is scope to extend our tenancy by a year. Time is running out but we will continue to explore every possibility in these discussions. "We have to be realistic that unfortunately the current situation is that Armadale Stadium will close after our Farewell to Armadale event on Saturday 15th October but we will not stop until the long-term future of the Monarchs is secured." Monarchs Reign Set to Continue with Armadale Stadium Reprieve
Monarchs have reached an agreement in principle for the reprieve of speedway at Armadale Stadium for the 2023 season, subject to the conclusion of a formal agreement.
The dramatic development comes after the recent Farewell to Armadale event rounded-off the time of the Monarchs at the stadium in the past fortnight. There always remained the hope that if the stadium owners could not complete the sale of the stadium at the present time, that speedway might make a temporary return.
Monarchs Co-Promoter John Campbell explained, "We have been in contact with the stadium owners throughout the past two months as they worked to clarify their current position in the sale of the stadium. Word reached us on Tuesday that they are now in a position to make the stadium available for speedway in 2023.
"Since then, informal discussions have continued and have now reached an agreement in principle for the Monarchs to remain at Armadale Stadium for 2023.
"This is still subject to the formalisation of this agreement and confirmation of final details which we will continue to work on in the days ahead. However, we have an excellent relationship with the Cochrane Family and believe that this will conclude positively."
The speedway world moves quickly each winter which has brought forward this announcement as soon as possible, Campbell said, "Our supporters are the best around and we wished to alleviate their worries as soon as possible. Our riders are also eager to get fixed up for 2023 so we are pleased to now be able to make plans for next season.
"Everyone at the Club is thrilled that we will continue in 2023 and long live the Monarchs far into the future beyond."
The other fantastic development will be the continuation of the Monarchs Speedway Academy which has been such a success over the past two seasons. The young riders staged their first official Academy Championship at what was to be the final meeting last Friday.
The recent Farewell to Armadale event provided a fitting send-off to what has been a glorious home of the Club ahead of the impending closure of the stadium, however the change in circumstances brings much relief that the Monarchs will continue into next season at Armadale subject to the positive conclusion of talks.
This wonderful news should lift the gloom Monarchs' supporters have been feeling for some time and they can look forward to returning to Armadale Stadium once more next spring.
