3 Aug 1987 Def Leppard released their fourth studio album Hysteria which became their best selling album to date, selling over 20 million copies worldwide. The title of the album was thought up by drummer Rick Allen relating to his experiences during the time of his car accident, and the worldwide media coverage that followed.
- RIP Stephen Maynard Clark (23 April 1960 – 8 January 1991) - he was an English musician. He was a principal songwriter and lead guitarist for the English hard rock band Def Leppard until 1991, when he died from alcohol poisoning.

I still often play ‘Women in chains’, with Oleta Adams. They found her singing in a US bar. Top tune. Shame the boys fell out. I don’t think Kurt liked Roland taking over most of the vocals. Must have buried the hatchet as 40 years on they’ve brought out a new album this year. 40 years on

His 1982 album Thriller, is the best-selling studio album of all time. Jackson died on 25th June 2009 at the age of 50, after suffering heart failure at his home in Beverly Hills.
29 Aug 2009 The Los Angeles coroner confirmed Michael Jackson's death was homicide, primarily caused by the powerful anaesthetic Propofol. The singer suffered a cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home in June, aged 50. The report said Propofol and the sedative Lorazepam were the "primary drugs responsible for Jackson's death", but four further drugs were also found.

5 Sep 1981 Soft Cell were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with their version of 'Tainted Love.' The song had been a hit for Gloria Jones in 1964. (Jones who became Marc Bolan's girlfriend was the driver of the car, that crashed and killed Bolan on 16 September 1977. Jones nearly died in the accident).

5 Sep 2021 English singer Sarah Harding died age 39. Her professional career began in 2002 when she successfully auditioned for the ITV reality series Popstars: The Rivals, during which Harding won a place in the girl group Girls Aloud. The group achieved twenty consecutive top ten singles (including four number ones) in the UK. In August 2020 Harding announced that she had been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer.

Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan (Born 6 September 1971 – died 15 January 2018) - singer, songwriter with The Cranberries who had the 1994 hit singles ‘Linger’, 'Dreams' and 'Zombie'. The bands 1993 album Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We spent a total of 86 weeks on the UK chart. She died unexpectedly on 15 January 2018 while she was in London, England, for a recording session.

born 7 Sep 1957 Jermaine Stewart, singer, Shalamar, (1986 UK No.2 single 'We Don't Have To...Take Our Clothes Off'). Also worked with Shalamar, The Temptations and Boy George. Stewart died of AIDS-related liver cancer on March 17, 1997, at age 39 in the Chicago suburb of Homewood, Illinois. His burial site was left without a tombstone or even a grave marker for over 17 years. In 2014, his grave finally received a gravestone, paid for anonymously by a fan. Born 8 Sep 1947 Benjamin Orr bass, vocals, The Cars, who had the 1978 UK No.3 single 'My Best Friend's Girl.' Their 1984 US No.3 & 1985 UK No.4 'Drive' was used as part of the soundtrack for the Live Aid concert. Orr died of cancer in Atlanta on 3 October 2000, aged 53.
