born 10 Oct 1961 English actor, musician Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet who became one of the most successful groups to emerge during the New Romantic era. They produced a number of international hits during the 80s including 'True', 'Gold' and 'Through the Barricades.' He is the brother of Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet who he appeared with in the British film 'The Krays'. He is also known for his role as Steve Owen in the British soap opera EastEnders.

18 Oct 2005 Madonna admitted that she wrote a grovelling letter to Abba asking if she could sample their music on her latest single ‘Hung Up.’ The singer had to seek permission to sample ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ and became only the second act that Abba has allowed to sample their work. The Fugees used part of ‘The Name Of The Game’ on their 1996 track ‘Rumble In The Jungle.’

19 Oct 2014 Raphael Ravenscroft who played the sax riff on the Gerry Rafferty hit 'Baker Street' died aged 60 of a suspected heart attack. He was the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and was a founding member of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had the 1977 single 'American Girl', the 1989 UK No.28 single 'I Won't Back Down', and the 1991 UK No.3 album 'Into The Great Wide Open'. With the Traveling Wilburys, the 1988 UK No. 21 single 'Handle With Care'. Petty has also released a string of solo albums, and Throughout his career and has sold over 60 million albums. Petty died on 2 October 2017.
