Not Zero: (Amazon books)
How an Irrational Target Will Impoverish You, Help China (and Won't Even Save the Planet)The British government has embarked on an ambitious and legally-binding climate change target: reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050. The Net Zero policy was subject to almost no parliamentary or public scrutiny, and is universally approved by our political class. But what will its consequences be?Ross Clark argues that it is a terrible mistake, an impractical hostage to fortune which will have massive downsides. Achieving the target is predicated on the rapid development of technologies that are either non-existent, highly speculative or untested. Clark shows that efforts to achieve the target will inevitably result in a huge hit to living standards, which will clobber the poorest hardest, and gift a massive geopolitical advantage to hostile superpowers such as China and Russia. The unrealistic and rigid timetable it imposes could also result in our committing to technologies which turn out to be ineffective, all while distracting ourselves from the far more important objective of adaptation. This hard-hitting polemic provides a timely critique of a potentially devastating political consensus which could hobble Britain’s economy, cost billions and not even be effective. Rob Roos MEP 🇳🇱 @rob_Roos (14/2/23) Due to the #EU's "green" policies, owning a car will be unaffordable to millions of Europeans. This is part of a bigger trend: private ownership is limited & freedom is taken away from people. I will continue to stand up for this freedom: LINK TO TWEET

Howard Cox@HowardCCox - 1/3/23 Germany & Italy to oppose EU's 2035 ban of diesel & petrol cars. Yet our poodle led Govt is still hell bent in doing it 5yrs earlier in 2030. Seems they want to lead the world on a crass ill-informed economic disaster of a policy @iromg @beverleyturner link to tweet

Seems they want to lead the world on a crass ill-informed economic disaster of a policy @iromg @beverleyturner link to tweet Absolute madness. The comments say it all. The madness is that the public is buying all of this nonsense. Perhaps when Peterborough gets its own ULEZ, bollards appear in their road, they are paying per mile to use their scalextric car if they've been able to find a charging point, on top of the cost of the electric to feed it, that's if the lights haven't gone out of course. I hope the climate activists have studied their history of a time when the local paper had a table of the days/times when you'd have a power cut. Rumour is that what America does we follow? Seems that we only follow the bad bits such as their woke, diversity and inclusion nonsense. If you watch CNBC Squawk Box then sustainability and a sustainable future is the message and direction of travel in the USA but they haven't, nationally at least, signed up to unachievable, uncosted (apart from the fact that those making the rules will be virtually unaffected) targets such as our useless political sheep have done.

I support the use of oil and gas - just to be clear, as we say. I would support a coal industry here in the UK if such existed. I support nuclear energy. The so called green revolution - in truth the new greed revolution - is predicated on perfidious rubbish. Just to be clear.

A new report (there may be others showing an alternative, more positive view? If you know of one then feel free to post!) shows that a switch to electric cars could wreak havoc on the environment. Because, all of that power has to come from somewhere ya know! Research from the Climate and Community Project and the University of California, Davis found that a switch to EVs would require three times more lithium than is currently produced in the world plus a heck of a lot more water and land because making electricity requires both. Those of us following the resources already know this. So is this proof that EVs will be a shift to cars we cannot drive??
This clearly has a USA focus but one assumes that the same applies worldwide:

It’s always been so obvious. Greta and her paint / soup throwing mob have no idea regarding what their stance actually entails.

It’s always been so obvious. Greta and her paint / soup throwing mob have no idea regarding what their stance actually entails. They are just brainwashed puppets though, being a front for the real troublemakers and financiers behind the scenes who are pushing all of this and the other associated destabilising nonsense going on these days. The alleged adults in the room are the problem (Conservatives/Labour et al) promoting/pushing this nonsense. Yes we all want a nicer environment but it should be done using existing technology and workable innovation, not ludicrously shutting up shop to meet legal targets that, to my knowledge, only a few countries have signed up to anyway?
