Have to say not brilliant but definitely the best GP I’ve watched at Prague. Tai is done at this level - he doesn’t appear to have the necessary commitment anymore. Or not prepared to pay for the equipment. Where did this Bewley chap come from. He came from nowhere - don’t recall him ever riding in the Youth Meetings, just appeared for Edinburgh (I think) one season and now a few years later he’s a GP star beating the best riders in the world.

He came from nowhere - don’t recall him ever riding in the Youth Meetings, just appeared for Edinburgh (I think) one season and now a few years later he’s a GP star beating the best riders in the world. I remember thinking the same about Bewley last year as he sort of appeared out of nowhere really if you were not of those fans versed in everything speedway, but I think that according to Wikipedia, which we'll take to be accurate, he's been around for a few years but has clearly got talent as he started at the bottom but rose through the ranks at pace without stopping, as most do: Bewley started riding for the Belle Vue Colts and as a reserve for the Edinburgh Monarchs in 2017. In 2017, he won the National League Riders' Championship before being promoted to the senior side (Belle Vue Aces) in 2017. The same year he won the 2017 Conference League Riders' Championship. In 2018, he finished runner-up to Robert Lambert in the British Speedway Championship, won the British Under-19 Final and claimed a third place in the second round of the World Under 21 Championship series in Poland. In 2020, Bewley won the British Speedway Under 21 Championship and became a member of the British Speedway team. In 2021, he finished runner-up again in the 2021 British Speedway Championship. In 2021, he became a world champion after Great Britain secured the 2021 Speedway of Nations (the world team title). In August 2022, Bewley won back-to-back SGPs in Cardiff and Wroclaw. In September 2022, he became the British champion after winning the 2022 British Speedway Championship with a 15 point maximum from his five rides.[10] Bewley ended the 2022 season with a sixth place finish during the 2022 Speedway World Championship, after securing 102 points during the 2022 Speedway Grand Prix. The top six place finish automatically qualified him for the 2023 Speedway Grand Prix. He helped Smederna win the Swedish Speedway Team Championship during the 2022 campaign. In 2023, he returned to ride for Belle Vue for the SGB Premiership 2023. That's what you call a progressive speedway CV

And I am getting fed up with Doyle’s dying swan routine when anyone goes near him. It wasn't a bad meeting but I skimmed through most as I wasn't in the mood to watch it all. I find the gate picking bit a bit tedious. I much preferred the Monster Girls being in attendance but that's progress, or someone's idea of progress, much like pointlessly losing grid girls at F1, Moto GP, Superbikes etc, so I don't watch the gate picks. Woffinden was talking big before the series about what he was going to do but sadly he's just hit and miss and making up the numbers. Doubt that he'll make the 2023 top 6 so it must be touch and go to get a pick for 2024. I'm not sure what he offers to the series now? I'd just about give Doyle the benefit of the doubt with those two falls but I doubt that going down so easily will be tolerated much more. He'll soon find himself being excluded if he keeps it up.

Even more so when you consider he had a really bad crash, suffering serious injuries, in between all that. Then you have riders like Kyle Bickley who won everything in the Youth Championships from a very young age. Hailed as a future superstar yet couldn’t make the step up. Announced his retirement from the sport recently.

Announced his retirement from the sport recently. Think that that was the bit that I was searching for last year but nobody seems to mention or report it. It doesn't even appear on the Wikipedia page which is strange as it's a rather important missing part of the jigsaw: A HORROR crash involving Maryport youngster Dan Bewley forced Workington Comets' home meeting against Lakeside to be abandoned last night. Nineteen-year-old Comets racer Bewley was taken to hospital after a collision with the Hammers' Kyle Newman in heat three which left him requiring extensive treatment on the track. Comets will post updates on Bewley's condition on their Twitter page when they are available. Team manager Tony Jackson said: “Unfortunately it was just a racing incident as the riders exited turn two, with Dan clipping Kyle’s back wheel and getting thrown awkwardly towards the fence. “The medical team did a terrific job in treating Dan at the scene, and once it became clear how much time was going to be required to ensure that he received the best treatment possible, it was soon obvious that the meeting could not achieve a result before the curfew. "That left us with no alternative but to abandon the meeting. “Dan was conscious throughout and received treatment for a serious leg injury on the track prior to being taken to hospital in Carlisle for a full assessment of his injuries and further treatment as required. “Naturally, we are all devastated for him and we all wish Dan a full and speedy recovery. "We have already been inundated with messages of support for Dan from throughout the speedway community, which underlines just how popular he has become in the sport in a relatively short period of time.” newsandstar.co.uk/workington-comets-rider-dan-bewley-horror-crash 27th August 2018
FOLLOWING his crash at Workington on Saturday evening Dan Bewley has now had all of his currently planned operations and is now recovering well in Carlisle Infirmary. The doctors have reported that they are very pleased with how everything went. His injuries can now be confirmed as a broken left femur (in five places), a broken upper right arm and a broken left wrist. After being in theatre for seven hours on Sunday he has been ‘pinned and plated’ and the doctors are looking to get him up on his feet for the first time within the next 24 hours. A Workington Speedway spokesman said: “Dan’s spirits remain high and he thanks everyone for their messages of support. “Again, we repeat, that Dan’s family have politely asked that although everyone is obviously concerned as to Dan’s welfare, which is greatly appreciated, that they refrain from contacting the hospital to enquire about his condition. “We have spoken with Dan’s family, who have promised to keep us updated at regular intervals and we will bring further updates on his condition when we have them. “On behalf of Dan and his family we thank-you all for your continued support.” cumbriacrack/dan-bewley-on-the-mend-after-breaking-his-leg-in-five-places 27/08/2018

I moan after taking the boy for a long walk across the fields because my feet hurt. The one I remember most was Chris Manchester. Was progressing very well in the One League. Had a bad crash. After time out to recover his bottle had completely gone. He was never the same rider again.
