PETERBOROUGH legend Ulrich Ostergaard is making final preparations for his Farewell Meeting at the East of England Arena this Sunday (July 2, 4pm).

The Dane gave great service to the Panthers during several spells, and has been involved in several of their greatest moments over the last two decades.

The line-up is now complete for a Four Team Tournament, culminating in an Individual Final, whilst there will also be track time for several of the UK’s hot prospects in 500cc and 125cc categories – as well as Vintage speedway demonstrations.

Four of Ostergaard’s old team managers take charge of the sides, including ex-Panthers bosses Carl Johnson and Trevor Swales, with Cami Brown and Ben Duffill managing Glasgow and Redcar respectively.

Another Peterborough favourite Emil Grondal will be in attendance and will hopefully do some demonstration laps.

Ostergaard said: “It’s a good line-up, and I’ve tried all I could to get the best field possible with riders I’ve ridden with or against, and people I’ve had a really good relationship with.

“It’s all about having fun and for me to have the opportunity to say goodbye to everyone.

“I want everyone to have a good day, and to close one chapter because it’s been a big, big chapter of my life from all these years in the UK.”

Doesn't even make the BSF or anywhere else - sums up the state of the club and interest within it. I hope it went well for Ostrich, just wished he'd had his day when the club was in a better place!

On the whole an enjoyable day, certainly Ulrich and those involved did all they could to make it so !!! Have to ask why it is that gates closed even to get into peripheries let alone stadium. Total disgrace that bar did not open till 4pm. Seems to me that present owners doing their best to ensure any event that does not suit their agenda is made as awkward as possible.

Your assumption is correct!!!I was told yesterday that staff responsible for outside events have been dismissed which was part of reason bar did not open till 4. In present climate and if planning permission not immediately forthcoming it is of course possible we may get another year, however the indications are that present owners of showground would be happy if it were not possible to hold future outside events , indeed I understood that one of the first things they planned to do was to get rid o f the track and grandstand. Sooner or later they will get their way which is why I maintain that if Panthers are to have a long term future they will need to find a home other than showground.

Reminds one of when Mercer arrived all of those years ago. That was very much the start of the hatchet job which leads to where we are now. AEPG would be in breach of the local plan (specifically LP 30) if they cause any damage to the speedway infrastructure without fulfilling those specific provisions within it. The LP says, and councillors have also said, that the application will not be approved without LP 30 being met. I agree that sooner or later they will get planning permission of some sort but who knows what revised plans will look like? I think that they'll look to 2026 when the revised local plan may appear without the ankle tag, for AEPG, of LP 30. That could give a new owner 3 seasons at least?
