No speedway stadium in the world has hosted more FIM Speedway Grand Prix action than Prague’s iconic Marketa Stadium. Prague has become a legendary stop on the tour – and victory here comes with the ultimate lucky omen. An incredible 12 of the last 22 Speedway GP winners in Prague have gone on to be crowned world champion in the same season. The Marketa Stadium opened in the 1930s and is home to Prague’s speedway team AK Marketa, who race in the Czech league. It has hosted Speedway GP racing every year since 1997.

Max Fricke makes his first appearance in the 2024 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series after injured compatriot Jason Doyle officially withdrew from the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Czech Republic – Prague this Saturday.

Fricke steps into the line-up to replace his 2022 FIM Speedway of Nations-winning teammate after Doyle crashed out of Ipswich’s Rowe Motor Oil Premiership match at King’s Lynn last Thursday.

The Witches confirmed he suffered rib and shoulder injuries in the incident, although it is unclear how long he will remain sidelined.

Fricke finished ninth in the 2023 Speedway GP series and will be determined to take full advantage of his call-up after missing out on a permanent wild card spot for this season.

He has reached two semi-finals in seven Prague appearances – the best of those saw him score 13 points in the 2019 event.

We wish Jason a full and speedy recovery.

Finished fast forwarding this GP. Prague never fails to disappoint, as usual absolute crap. Yes they did well with the track covers after the rain but it’s always the worst GP every year. Read today this track has now held the most GP’s - it’s most definitely not for the racing. Annoyed with myself as planned to put my £1 on Vaculik but forgot.

Woffy is back to the rider prior to his £500/1 wild card WC win. Can’t see that ever returning.

Just to add. Sad to hear Doyle is out for the season. The guy has no fear. Too many risky moves.

I did FF through many of the first 8 heats (mainly after a lap when the race (little r) was over) because the Champions' League final was a must. I've no idea why they go to Prague annually? It must be either very cheap to run there or they must get a good wedge for adding it to the SGP calendar.

Made me laugh when Tatum said something along the lines of it being heaving? It doesn't look the biggest of stadiums and in the few crowd shots shown there were plenty of free seats.

Woffinden has to turn it around pdq or his GP career is over. He is a 3 (is it 3?) times champ so never say never but the spark has gone atm and it's difficult to see it returning?

My sister and I were discussing Doyle this morning. Interesting that he said that there is more to life than speedway? Yes mate, walking and otherwise being in one piece. Too many crashes already and too many risky moves indeed. I'd have been happier if he said that he'd be calling it a day.
