Tomasz Gollob’s manager Thomas Gaszynski confirmed the world champion’s broken leg is healing nicely and says he should be back in the saddle in January.
Gollob landed awkwardly while riding his motocross bike a few days before the FIM Bydgoszcz SGP of Poland on October 9. He suffered a broken leg and ankle, but still managed to win a race in his home town.
Fortunately, the 39-year-old had sealed the World Championship with his victory in the FIM Nice Italian SGP at Terenzano two weeks before.
And Gaszynski says the Polish legend will be fighting fit to defend his crown in 2011.
He said: “I’m 100 percent positive of that. He can start his rehabilitation in December and come January, he will do practise and all the necessary training he always does. He’ll be 110 percent fit come the 2011 season.
“It was a broken ankle and leg – they found it was broken in two places after they did more x-rays. But he didn’t need surgery. They just put it in the cast and they’re leaving it as it is. They’re letting it heal.
“He’s getting better and better. He has just got to wait a little bit longer for it to heal completely. We have three more weeks and then he has a rehabilitation stage he has to go through. Then he’ll be ready for the season. He can start training and get ready for 2011.”
While Gollob’s bones knit back together, he has been enjoying his time away from the shale and making a string of personal and television appearances in his homeland.
Gaszynski added: “He’s doing a lot of good stuff. He’s trying to promote the sport as much as possible in Poland.
“He’s doing a lot of TV shows. He did Kuba Wojewodzki’s show – the equivalent of the Jay Leno Show here in Poland. That aired yesterday and he recorded it two weeks ago. It’s a really big programme in Poland with 19 million viewers watching every week.
“We’re really happy with all the attention. It has been a long time coming and he’s really, really happy with everything.”
