CHARLIE Lee admits he’s gutted to be leaving Posh after four brilliant years at London Road.
The 24 year-old year-old was the surprise inclusion on the club’s list of players made available for transfer following Sunday’s promotion to the Championship.
Lee moved to Posh on a free transfer from Spurs in the summer of 2007 and was a regular in three promotions under the managament of Darren Ferguson.
Ferguson broke the news of his availability for transfer yesterday just five days before the player’s wedding, but Lee insists he leaves with no hard feelings.
“I was surprised and a bit gutted,” Lee admitted.
“But I will take away some brilliant memories from my time at the club.
“Posh took a chance on me when I was released by Spurs and I will always be grateful for that.
“In fact whatever I go on to achieve in football will be down to Posh.
“I had a fantastic relationship with the supporters as well as the management and all the players at the club so there is plenty I will miss.
“But it’s rare that you stay at one club for your entire career and I feel fortunate to have spent four years at Posh when the club have enjoyed so much success.
“I’m going to get my wedding out of the way now and see what then develops.
“I still want to play at the highest level I possibly can and hopefully I will go on to achieve more success.”
Lee, who was comfortable in several positions, made 178 appearances for Posh and scored 16 goals, including one at Colchester that clinched promotion from League One at the end of the 2008-09 season.
He made 41 appearances this season and came on as a substitute in the League One Play-Off Final against Huddersfield at Old Trafford.
Lee fell out of favour during Gary Johnson’s brief reign as Posh boss and was loaned out to League Two side Gillingham earlier this season.
Gillingham and League One side Notts County have already enquired about Lee.
Both clubs as well as Rotherham and Crawley have enquired about transfer-listed winger Chris Whelpdale.
Posh will expect fees for all the players made available for transfer apart from defender Nana Ofori-Twumasi who will complete a free transfer move to League Two club Northampton Town later this month.
Midfielder Romone McCrae and striker Rene Howe have already been released.
