Serious injury Leigh Adams (new information)
Today we received a very brief information about the serious accident on a motorcycle Adams. The Australian, who last year retired from speedway, was transported by air from Alice Springs to Adelaide Hospital with suspected spinal cord injury.
-----------------
8:45 Time: Doctors do not yet want to give any judgments, but it is certain that Adams spine is broken in three places. When a former player of the Union Leszno stayed in Alice Springs had no feeling from the waist down. Adams received immediate assistance, so I hope that feeling in my legs back. Emphasize once again that they are very fresh information, and the doctors refuse to comment on the case of the health status of former rider.
Latest information suggests he is lucky to be alive but its terrible news for a very popular rider and star

Swindon Robins legend Leigh Adams is seriously injured Adams first rode for Swindon Robins back in 1990 Swindon Robins speedway legend Leigh Adams has suffered serious injuries in an off-road motorbike accident in his native Australia. He was airlifted to hospital with back injuries following the crash. The 40-year-old left Swindon at the end of the 2010 campaign after more than a decade's service to the club. Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett told BBC Wiltshire: "I believe his injuries are quite serious and our thoughts are with his wife and children right now." Adams was in training for an off-road desert race this weekend when the accident happened. Patchett added: "They have a very, very good medical set up in Australia so he will be receiving absolutely the best care that there is available. "What a cruel irony that Leigh came through a 25 year career in speedway almost without a scratch on him and then to be hurt so badly." Adams rode in England for 22 years and was named Swindon's rider of the year nine times. bbc www.speedcafe.com/2011/06/08/leigh-adams-injured-in-finke-desert-rally/

Australian legend Leigh Adams’ wife Kylie says the former Swindon and Leszno favourite is “very alert and talking” after doctors carried out an operation to repair his badly-injured spine.
The 40-year-old suffered a horrifying crash while practising for the Finke Desert Rally in Alice Springs at around 1pm local time on Tuesday.
Adams sustained multiple injuries including several fractured vertebrae, extensive spinal cord damage, punctured lungs, broken ribs, a broken scapula and a small fracture in his neck.
After waiting five hours for an air ambulance to arrive, Adams was stabilised, before eventually being taken to Adelaide, where he underwent a gruelling six-hour operation.
Doctors are said to be very happy with the outcome according to a statement from Swindon and Kylie is pleased with how the Grand Prix great has come through his ordeal.
She said: "He has no feeling in his legs at present except a little bit in one thigh. But that situation could certainly change and improve in the weeks and months ahead.
“He faces a long, hard road to recovery. He's currently in intensive care but could be moved out today into the special spinal unit.
“He's actually very stable and probably a bit too well to be in intensive care. He's very alert and talking.
“Leigh has no head injuries at all which is wonderful news. He's just very sleepy due to the pain medication being administered.”
Anyone wishing to email Leigh a message of support can do so by emailing srn@speedway.com.au.

Desert Race Committee devastated over Leigh Adams accidentPresident of the Finke Desert Race, Antony Yoffa, said that the Race committee is devastated at the injuries received by Mildura's Leigh Adams at practice ahead of the event. The recently retired speedway champion received serious injuries when he crashed last Tuesday doing a pre-run along the track. "Motorsports is inherently dangerous and we all say that," Mr Yoffa said. "But it really hits home when it happens to someone that's come up for what is normally a fantastic weekend." Mr Adams was practising for the three day Finke Desert Race, an off-road motorbike and car event where competitors travel from Alice Springs to the remote community of Finke. Mr Yoffa says the 230 kilometre Finke Track is open all year around. "We don't police the track, we don't own the track, he said. "We encourage any people that are out using it to attend our official reconnaissance where there are sweep drivers and where we have ambulance personnel, but there are other times when people go out there which we have no control over." "On behalf of the committee, we can only wish him well and our thoughts are with the family." Adams was moved from intensive care to a special care unit at the Adelaide Hospital on Thursday and his wife and family have moved into a unit close to the Hospital. Friends left Friday night with a trailer load of personal items for Mrs Adams to set up in the unit, which she will rent for the duration of her husband's rehabilitation, which is expected to be a long time.www.milduraindependent

LEIGH ADAMS' PROGRESS ENCOURAGINGTen times Australian Speedway Motorcycle Champion, Mildura's Leigh Adams, is making steady progress despite the serious injuries he sustained in an off road motorcycle accident on June 7. The 40 year old Australian speedway legend, now retired from international speedway competition, underwent a lengthy operation last week in the aftermath to his unfortunate crash whilst practicing for the annual Finke Desert Race staged in Alice Springs. Despite multiple serious injuries, Leigh's wife Kylie says her husband is in remarkably good spirits and is doing far better than expected. "Leigh is making good progress and has now been moved from intensive care into a private ward," Kylie said. "At this stage doctors are recommending that only Leigh's immediate family should visit him. It's obviously far better that Leigh conserves his energy to give him the best possible chance of getting better. He actually watched part of a DVD featuring last weekend's Speedway Grand Prix in Copenhagen so he can keep up to date with what's going on in the sport he loves". Kylie, Leigh and their children Declyn and Casey would like to extend their sincere thanks to the many friends and family that have shown unconditional support for them during this most difficult time. "Everyone has been so thoughtful and generous and we're really grateful, "Kylie added. Leigh has received thousands of messages and emails of support from all over the world. Meanwhile, Gillman Speedway in Adelaide has confirmed it will be staging a Leigh Adams Benefit Meeting on Saturday night, November 26, 2011. The event, combining the annual Jack Young Cup for speedway solos, will be a gala affair featuring many of the sport's biggest names. c&p from yahoo groups, don't know the original source

Leigh Adams on road to recoveryLeigh Adams is preparing for the 2011 Leigh Adams Benefit Meeting in South Australia next month. Australian Speedway Legend Leigh Adams has returned to his Mildura home after checking out of the Hampstead Rehabilitation Facility in Adelaide late last month. Adams was seriously injured in a crash suffered outside of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory while off road riding in mid-June. Since the incident and the numerous surgeries the 10-time Australian Speedway Champion has been undertaking an intense rehabilitation program, which he hopes to continue in America. Adams told SPEED TV he was excited to be back home and eager to move on in the new phase of his life. "I have been at the Hampstead facility for several months and I’m itching to get home and the start of a new chapter in my life," Adams said. "I am very proud of what I’ve achieved since I’ve been here and given the magnitude of the serious injuries I sustained I am well pleased with my progress so far. "A little more movement has returned to my left leg and it seems to be progressing ok. I’m getting stronger all the time and I’m looking forward to getting home with my family and friends around me.” A positive outlook has Adams working hard to continue his rehabilitation. "They (the staff at the rehab centre) have taught me how to live in a wheelchair and I intend to keep working hard in physio, the swimming pool and on the parallel bars, in an effort to keep improving physically,” He said. “I’m setting up a gym at home and I’ll do whatever is required to eventually get out of this wheelchair and walk again." The Speedway Racing News Leigh Adams Benefit Meeting to be held on Saturday 26 November at Gillman Speedway in South Australia, will aim to raise funds for the upcoming journey to America to take part the Project Walk program."I intend heading to America in early January and undergoing an intensive 8 week physio and training program," He said. "Project Walk is a special facility that assists people in maximising their recovery and I want to give it a shot. "I am very grateful for the amazing support I’ve received from around the world and my family and I have been very taken back by the generosity and kindness afforded to me from so many people. It really is very humbling." The Leigh Adams Benefit Meeting has attracted some of the biggest names in Australian Speedway, with the likes of Chris Holder, Darcy Ward, Davey Watt and Cameron Woodward all confirmed for the event.www.ma.org.au

Seems a disappointing field to me Fans Down Under can aid an Australian legend on his road to recovery, as the Leigh Adams Benefit meeting takes place at Gillman on Saturday (Nov 26)The speedway family has rallied around Adams since he suffered an horrific crash while practicing for the Finke Desert Rally near Alice Springs in June, just nine months after his speedway career ended. Adams remains in a wheelchair after suffering serious spinal injuries. The meeting near Adelaide is being staged to raise funds for the former world No.2 to attend the internationally-renowned Project Walk clinic in California. Australian international Davey Watt headlines a field, which features a raft of the country’s up-and-coming stars, who will be battling it out to win the Jack Young Cup. Eastbourne skipper Cameron Woodward, Wolves racer Tyron Proctor, Premier League Riders champion Sam Masters and Newcastle rider Mark Lemon are also chasing the trophy, which Adams won five times during his stellar career. As well as the solo competition, eight of the world’s brightest sidecar stars will be competing including five-time Australian champions Glenn O’Brien and Darrin Treloar, and twice world track racing champion Mick Headland. The 125cc support races will feature Adams’ son Declyn, who has been learning the family business. Gillman will also debut its new, state-of-the-art £50,000 air fence and new terracing, which was put in place during the Aussie winter. The main event will start with an interview with Adams at 6pm, but this will be preceded at 3.30 pm with a programme of support solos, sidecars, quads and 125cc juniors. There will also be a fireworks display before the finals, and during the night some special guests from the past will be interviewed, including former Australian World Cup winner Todd Wiltshire, John Titman, Steve Baker and Troy Butler. Jack Young Solo Cup Line-up: Davey Watt, Sam Masters, Jake Anderson, Brock Gates, Mark Jones, Mark Lemon, Tyron Proctor, Justin Sedgmen, Ryan Sedgmen, Jason Stewart, Cameron Woodward, Robert Branford, Robert Ksiezak, Nigel Sadler, Cameron Heeps, Joe Jacobs. sgp

Seems a disappointing field to me Dissapointing isnt the word for it No Crump, Sullivan, Holder, Johnston, Schlein, Batchelor, Shields, Doyle, Doolan, Sweetman, Parker, North, McGowan, Harrison, Davies not to mention a few that might have a good excuse like Ward, Lyons and a certain 17 year old and thens theirs Cory Gathercole Adams cousin. Unless I am missing something I would have thought this kind of meeting would have been held in the middle of the Aussie championships to help the field, mind not that many of the top Australians seem to bothered with that.
