Swedish racer Freddie Lindgren has challenged his Grand Prix rivals who sit out British racing to come back and take him on for top spot in the Elite League averages.
Fast Freddie is enjoying another blistering season for Wolverhampton and stands a great chance of finishing top of the charts for the third year running.
He faces stiff competition from the likes of Poole star Chris Holder, King’s Lynn racer Kenneth Bjerre, Peterborough hotshot Nicki Pedersen and Coventry newcomer Emil Sayfutdinov.
Pedersen returned to the Elite after a three-year absence this term, while Sayfutdinov made his British bow with the Bees last month. It appears an increasing number of riders are open to racing regularly in the UK. But Lindgren says any SGP star thinking they will come over and rack up a string of maximums in the Elite may be in for a shock.
He said: “I think the Elite League is growing a bit stronger now. A few guys are coming back and it’s really good for British speedway.
“They’re coming over and I don’t think they’re finding it as easy as they thought they would. I’m really pleased with that.”
