Swindon top gun Scott Nicholls says he will do things his way as he prepares to take over the Robins No.1 race jacket from Australian legend Leigh Adams. Nicholls has his first official engagement at Blunsdon on Thursday when he rides a few laps at the club’s press and practise day, before making his debut in red and white at home to Lakeside on March 24. Speculation was rife towards the end of last season as to who would take over from Adams, who had led the Swindon side since returning to his parent club from Poole in 2004. The former world No.2 racked up a club-record 6,442.5 points (excluding bonuses) during 12 seasons and three separate spells with the Wiltshire outfit. There is no doubt he will be an impossible act to follow, but Nicholls is ready to put his own stamp on the Robins No.1 berth and admits he is not there to replace the former Grand Prix favourite. He said: “It’s all positive pressure. Leigh was exceptional and he was Mr Swindon. But I’m not looking to go in and replace him. I’m looking to go in and do a good job, the best job I can. “I’ve got my methods and my take on things, so hopefully people will like the way I do things, like my riding and see that I am a team person. “I’m sure there will always be some people who say Leigh is irreplaceable. But I’m just going in there to do a No.1’s job and hopefully lead Swindon to a successful season.” Ipswich-born Nicholls knows all about being a local hero. He spent ten seasons with his home town club in three different stints. He admits Swindon fans may struggle to let go of Adams, who based himself in the town. But having won three Elite League titles, four Knockout Cups and two Craven Shields, Nicholls believes he has the pedigree to bring honours to Blunsdon. He added: “I’ve been at Ipswich a long time myself. Leigh was a fans’ favourite at Swindon and he was a fans’ favourite because he was a No.1, a good leader and an exceptional rider. There will always be the ones who are massive Leigh fans and never let go. I respect that. “But I’ve always been in the top part of the averages for the past 10 or 12 years myself. "I’ve led Coventry to a few titles and I’ve always been a strong part of Ipswich. I’d like to think I can bring something to the team. “I have my way and Leigh had his way. You can’t really compare us. Everyone has their own way of doing things. Hopefully my way fits in and I’m looking forward to it.” Nicholls says he had no shortage of offers when Ipswich made the decision to drop into the Premier League at the end of last year. But he admits the chance of a completely new challenge excited him. He said: “To be honest, I could ride anywhere in England and I did the obvious thing, worked out a few clubs where they already had No.1s and there was no way they could fit me in. I saw Leigh was departing Swindon, but I had a few options open to me. “Swindon were enthusiastic and I like the track. The Thursday race night suits me well. It’s one of the better ones to have in Britain. “It’s something new as well. It’s a club I haven’t been to before. I like to have a new challenge, meet new people and have a new direction. It ticked a lot of boxes for me.” sgp

Swindon adver comment after Belle Vue defeat:
"i'm sick of 2011 already. Nicholls stuck in traffic. Steady turns up with his bikes and is told he can't ride by the doctor. Magic arrives at start time after being delay. Track like a ploughed field. What else can go wrong? This is a bad sign for the rest of the season. Are we jinxed?"
"i brought a season ticket this year so its just my luck it will prob rain on thursday now lol"
"Gotta feel sorry for the boys up there who are trying their balls off tonight on a poor track. At least they made it up there."
"Flaming Traffic jams and doctors who needs them with seven man teams. Speedway becomes laughable when this happens and OK so Belle Vue have a field day but is this really sport. It works against the system with no substitute riders and may be its time that speedway have something in place when two heat leaders are missing from one team with all the weakened teams points counting double??? who knows but I am P*ssed off this season already with what has gone on off the track."
"It's just as bad as the football. Swindon must be the laughing stock of this country! Sort it out Russell, both of you!"
"100jonboy what would you like Russell do exactly over rule a doctor or become a road specialist and have a road that just our speedway riders can use. If there's an accident that blocks a motorway there is nothing anyone can do about it as they call it fate! Certainly nothing the Russells can do about that. How about blaming them for the fuel prices while your at it."

Swindon Robins 46, Lakeside Hammers 46 (84-102 agg)
SWINDON salvaged a late 46-46 draw with Lakeside at the Abbey Stadium tonight but still lost their two-legged challenge match 102-84 overall.
CHALLENGE MEETING SECOND LEG, ABBEY STADIUM (LEG ONE SCORE 56-38 TO LAKESIDE)
SWINDON ROBINS: Scott Nicholls (1-1*-3-1-3)9+1, Grzegorz Zengota r/r, Tomasz Chrzanowski (0-2-1-2*-0)5+1, Maciej Janowski (1*-0-3-3-1)8+1, Simon Stead (3-2*-3-0-1)9+1, Justin Sedgmen (3-2-3-0-0)8, Josh Grajczonek (2*-2*-1-1-1)7+2
LAKESIDE HAMMERS: Lee Richardson (3-3-4^-2*-2)14+1, Kauko Nieminen (2*-2*-2-1*-0)7+3, Adam Shields (3-R-2-3)8, Piotr Swiderski (0-1-R-3)4, Lewis Bridger (1-3-F-3)7, Robert Mear (1-0-1-2*-2*)6+2, Lubos Tomicek (R-0-0)0
HEAT DETAILS
Heat 1: Richardson, Nieminen, Nicholls, Chrzanowski, 64.83 (1-5)
From the gate. Richardson is miles ahead at the finish.
Heat 2 (re-run): Sedgmen, Grajczonek, Mear, Tomicek (R), 66.95 (6-6)
Confusion reigns as three riders complete the four laps but the yellow and black flag is waving. Sedgmen is given the win nonetheless. Tomicek had earlier crashed on bend three, lap one, and remounted, but later retired.
Heat 3: Shields, Chrzanowski, Janowski, Swiderski, 66.86 (9-9)
Janowski is a little bit rusty, getting his lines wrong a couple of times and going from second to fourth, before pulling back ahead of Swiderski. Shields wins from the front.
Heat 4: Stead, Grajczonek, Bridger, Tomicek, 67.49 (14-10)
Who's worried about Stead's rib injury now? The skipper flies out of the gate and wins comfortably. Grajczonek comes out on top in a titanic battle with Bridger.
Heat 5: Richardson, Nieminen, Chrzanowski, Janowski, 65.89 (15-15)
Richardson could have cycled the last lap and he still would have won. The former Swindon asset looks on fire tonight.
Heat 6: Bridger, Sedgmen, Nicholls, Mear, 67.21 (18-18)
The best race of the night so far as Bridger goes from third to first, overhauling Sedgmen on the back straight of lap four.
Heat 7: Sedgmen, Stead, Swiderski, Shields (R), 67.34 (23-19)
He's riding like a man possessed tonight, that Sedgmen, showing Stead how to gate and then cruising in to victory. A very easy 5-1.
Heat 8 (re-run): Janowski, Nieminen, Grajczonek, Tomicek (15m), 67.71 (27-21)
Tomicek is penalised for moving at the start, after doing the same in race two. Janowski gates but Nieminen thunders around the outside of him on bend two. Janowski then returns the favour a lap later.
Heat 9 (awarded): Janowski, Chrzanowski, Mear, Bridger (F) (32-22)
The two Poles make a good gate and Janowski edges up the inside out of bend two. The race is awarded after Bridger comes to grief at the start of lap two, falling wide out on the first bend.
Heat 10: Nicholls, Shields, Grajczonek, Swiderski (R), 67.30 (36-24)
Top gate from Nicholls and he's away for his first Robins race win. Shields gets past Grajczonek at the end of lap one but he has his hands full staying ahead of the young Aussie.
Heat 11: Stead, Richardson (tac), Nieminen, Sedgmen, 67.49 (39-29)
It's all elbows at the first bend but Stead cuts back violently up the inside out of bend two to go from third to first. It's his trademark move and works a dream for the skipper as he blunts Richardson' tactical ride.
Heat 12: Shields, Mear, Grajczonek, Chrzanowski, 67.56 (40-34)
Shields blasts in front on the back straight of lap one. Chrzanowski has had an up and down night, to say the least.
Heat 13: Bridger, Richardson, Nicholls, Stead, 67.83 (41-39)
Bridger comes from the back to clock up a magnificent win. Where on earth did that come from? Lakeside could steal a win on the night now.
Heat 14: Swiderski, Mear, Janowski, Sedgmen, 68.48 (42-44)
The Hammers are in front for the first time. Mear blocks Janowski at the first bend and Swiderski zips up the inside. Maximum time for the visitors.
Heat 15: Nicholls, Richardson, Stead, Nieminen, 68.15 (46-46)
Stead gates. Nicholls rockets into first on bend two lap two and Stead is unable to hold off Richardson.

ROBINS 42 KING'S LYNN 48
SWINDON are still searching for their first win of the season after going down to a 48-42 defeat against King’s Lynn at the Abbey.
It was heartbreak for the Robins who looked to be heading to victory as they held a 33-27 advantage after heat 10, but the Norfolk side finished strongly to then take a four-point lead into the last race.
In the decider the impressive Kenneth Bjerre shot from the start to beat Scott Nicholls and former Blunsdon favourite held off Simon Stead for third place. The ensuing 4-2 was more than enough to earn the Stars the Elite League points.
Their was some good individual performances on the Swindon side with Nicholls carding 12+1 and Josh Grajczonek was again in the points with a creditable 10+1 from the reserve berth. Maciej Janowski also chipped in with 9, which included two race wins.
But King’s Lynn were solid throughout with Bjerre 13 and Korneliussen 12 being the pick of the bunch.
SWINDON 42: Scott Nicholls 12+1, Josh Grajczonek 10+1, Maciej Janowski 9, Simon Stead 5+1, Tomasz Chrzanowski3+1, Justin Sedgmen 3+1, Gregorz Zengota r/r
KING’S LYNN 48: Kenneth Bjerre 13, Mads Korneliussen 12, Oliver Allen 9+2, Nick Morris 7+3, Niels Kristian Iversen 7, Filipe Sitera 0, Tomas Topinka r/r

philbill, swindon says... (swindonadver comment) 8:53am Fri 15 Apr 11
where's the post match interviews with ronnie russell and co after such an abject start to the season? 6 weeks since Zengota's injury and and we are still waiting for something concrete, while at the same time Top Cat is stinking the joint up with his substandard pathetic performances - engine problems, set ups....why not use the more obvious reasons....no balls...shutting off miles before a bend, unwilling to risk himself when there is a gap.... a total shambles. The promotion will be counting the financial cost of this dismall all round mess if they dont act soon. I am sure Terry Russell will blame the fans as he did last year - take a closer look to home first. As things stand this speedway club is a total shambles.

so they've now signed monberg 4.51 So they have, Lynn got there at the right time then last week DOUBLE CHANGE FOR ROBINS SWINDON Robins have moved to bolster their Elite League Speedway side by making a double swoop on Denmark. Robins, who have yet to win a meeting this season, have signed Wolverhampton asset Nicolai Klindt and the vastly experienced Jesper B Monberg. Both riders will make their Robins debut in the mid-week trip to Poole and will replace the injured Grzegorz Zengota and the struggling Tomasz Chrzanowski. Klindt won the Elite League title at Swindon's expense in 2009 and is widely regarded as one of the most talented young riders on the world scene. He is in contention for a wild card slot at the Grand Prix in Copenhagen this summer. Monberg, formerly known as Jensen, hasn't raced in the UK since 2008 but is keen to revive his career with the Robins. Club co-owner Gary Patchett said: "We are delighted to finally be in a position to track a seven-man team, we are just sorry it has taken so long but this had been beyond our control. "We had riders telling us they could do it, then they would say no again and change their minds all the time, but here we have two riders who are desperate to do well for us. "Jesper is bringing his own equipment to the UK on Tuesday, driving over from Denmark, that's how important it is to him, he is desperate to do well for the club. "And Nicolai realises he needs to be riding regularly to enhance his career. He is over the disappointment of losing his place with Wolves and just wants to focus on scoring points with us. "It has been a lengthy process because we have virtually had to restructure the squad. It's not just been a case of signing one rider, we could have signed Nic a few weeks ago but we always knew we would have to make another change to allow it to happen. "It's never nice releasing a rider so early in the season but Tomasz has struggled and so reluctantly we have let him go. We wish him well for the future and hopefully now we can all move on and our season starts here. "We hope to see a big crowd to welcome the new boys when we face Birmingham at the Abbey on Thursday night." swindonweb

Well this was Swindons declaration last week and under those figures they were 0.10 under 40 pts, With Klindt on 6.58 and Monberg on 6.49 it doesnt take a maths expert to see somethings wrong or the Robins have made at least 3 changes.
I am reliably informed that GSA can only be changed or re assessed at an AGM (Pawlicki aside).
1 Scott Nicholls 8.54 2 Simon Stead 7.47 3 Tomasz Chrzanowski 6.12 4 Grzegorz Zengota 5.65 5 Maciek Janowski 5.00 6 J.Grajczonek/ C.Gathercole (DU) 3.85 7 Justin Sedgmen 3.27 8 Kenny Ingalls 3.04 Total 39.99 Total 39.60 Total 39.90 Remaining 0.01 Remaining 0.40 Remaining 0.10 .

Ok thanks. With several teams using D/uppers in their top 1-5 this season it is bound to occur again in the not too distant future. When reading the rules - ie. (b) covering absent riders 2-5 regardless of whether they are D/U's or not makes sense, but in reality, seeing a team using R/R for a rider competing for his PL team just does not feel quite right imo.

Really! Then you can answer the question for him: Another? So the list is rubbish communication to supporters, a lack of promoting the club locally, the winter of discontent, 40th anniversary meeting, track preparation at crucial times, sponsors all but gone compared from a few years ago. How much more do you need?

From Panthers website.
JESPER B. Monberg is on his way back to the Elite League after joining Swindon.
The Readypower Panthers have agreed to an initial 28-day loan deal that will help the Dane resurrect his British career.
Jesper hasn’t ridden regularly in this country since a 12-match spell at Wolverhampton in 2008 when he only averaged around four and a half points a meeting.
But the authorities refused to let him return on that figure because his dozen meetings were split between five at Monmore Green and seven away.
Instead he was lumbered with an old average nearly two points a meeting higher and despite several attempts the Panthers were unable to persuade the BSPA Management Committee to adjust his average.
It has effectively ruled him out of Peterborough’s team building plans even though he came over and rode in last year’s seasonal opener.
Team boss Trevor Swales said: “We have considered Jesper several times but always felt his average of nearly six and a half was too high.
"It may be that it will now be reduced and we have only agreed to him going to Swindon for an initial 28 days loan – we will reconsider the situation at the end of that month taking into account our own circumstances.
“At the moment the only way we could fit Jesper into our line-up is by releasing one of Nicki Pedersen, Troy Batchelor, Linus Sundström or Krzysztof Buczkowski but you never know what will happen in future.
“We would much rather see Jesper riding than having to spend another season out of the Elite League.”
If you care to work it out you will find he's on a 4.?? average which means the rules must have changed which means as usual our fingers are not on the button. Forget 28 days that's bull and our cop out excuse. What a missed opportunity.

How much more do you need? I'm sure that I can break it down later but at least they're not encouraging youngsters into the bar which is very unprofessional Oh hang on? They did last meeting, you'll need to add that one to your list It's all rather in the past though and the question is will they learn those lessons? I suspect that they might Although what this has got to do with Swindon I don't know? Sort of Fred Drift

We need 0.87 to fit in Jesper for Nobby Why dont we try and get Nicki's average reduced or tell Nicki to take it easy for a little bit and get his average down to 9.50. Then we get Kacper in reserve and then we can win the Elite League title Or maybe make a deal with Swindon to back let them sign Monberg if they back us up in order to get Nicki's average down to a suatible amount which means that we can get Zabik in for Nobby.

I have said many times that rulings like these depends on which teams ask and this decision to allow Jesper in on an average the BSPA said wasnt official at the time is just farce and yet more proof (if anyone needed it) that the whole ruling body makes it up as they go along. I do agree the 28 day comment is worthless, once he is in he is in, yet again our Director of Speedway has proven his finger isnt on the button, as for Trevor I think its plain only Trevor thinks he picks the team, everyone else with a single cell of brain power knows it isnt.
