ROBINS SIGN DARKIN
SWINDON Robins have swooped for Russian World Cup star Sergey Darkin to fill one of their reserve slots.
Darkin, 38, impressed for his country in the Speedway World Cup when they qualified for the race-off alongside Great Britain at King's Lynn.
He started the season with Premier League Leicester but was replaced when the sport's newcomers revamped their side, making him available to join Swindon in time for their August schedule.
The former Coventry man will take the place of doubling-up duo Chris Schramm and Josh Grajczonek who are both currently on the injured list.
Robins co-promoter Gary Patchett said: "We feel it is the right time to sign a permanent reserve rather than continue covering for the injured boys with guests.
"Sergey has a good pedigree, including a win over our own Scott Nicholls in the World Cup event at King's Lynn when he played a major part in helping his depleted nation through to the race-off.
"We are hoping he can settle in quickly and do a solid job at reserve for us. Results have been disappointing but we are not sitting back and just seeing the season out, we are continuing to strive for improvement where we possibly can."
Robins will hand Darkin his debut at King's Lynn in their next Elite League outing on Wednesday.

ROBINS 43 COVENTRY 47
SWINDON went down to a disappointing 43-47 home defeat at the hands of play-off chasing Coventry at Blunsdon on Thursday.
The Robins were unable to take full advantage of the Bees’ rider absences, with former Swindon man Ryan Fisher combining with guest Chris Harris for the match-winning 5-1 in Heat 15.
Robins had earlier battled back from six points down having been unfortunate in Heat 6 when race leader Scott Nicholls ground to a halt, which handed the Bees a 5-1.
But Nicolai Klindt, after winning his first three rides – the third of which produced a sensational passive move – broke the tapes in Heat 13, and he and Nicholls were unable to find a way past the visiting duo in the decider.
SWINDON 43: Nicolai Klindt 10, Scott Nicholls 9, Simon Stead 8+2, Jesper B Monberg 8+1, Grzegorz Zengota 3+1, Cory Gathercole 3, Sergey Darkin 2+1.
COVENTRY 47: Ryan Fisher 12+1, Chris Harris 11+2, Kenni Larsen 11, Nick Morris 9+2, Ritchie Hawkins 3, Jordan Frampton 1+1, Emil Sayfutdinov r/r.

STEKKERS END OF SEASON VERDICT, Saturday October 29, 2011SWINDON boss Jan Staechmann has delivered his end of term verdict on a dreadful year for the club. Robins finished bottom of the Elite League after a torrid time which saw Polish riders banned from racing in the UK in a row over silencers, key injuries to Simon Stead and Grzegorz Zengota and the unavoidable cancellation of meetings. But former Denmark boss Staechmann says there are positives to take out of the season. He said: “On a personal level I looked at it as a challenge, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it, learning on my feet, and I have a renewed respect for the great team managers out there who have been doing it for years. “I know the FIM rulebook back to front, but the SCB rulebook is quite different. Very intricate and over complicated. “Our league position is what it is. We tried hard, and ended up where we did, we can't change that now, we just have to look ahead. Sometimes that is the hand you are dealt, and in 2011 it was our turn to have a bad year.” Staechmann has also revealed how the lack of team spirit was evident from the first meeting he took charge of the side, but he was able to turn it around. He said: “The lack of team spirit was noticeable right from the start, which I had been told about, and it is understandable within a team that is struggling. So to get that somewhat restored was a high priority in my book. “That we succeeded in turning that around was a real team effort, and when it was noted by many of the loyal Swindon fans on the terraces, that for me was very gratifying. “I feel we became a very entertaining side, and we won a few meetings as well. “The team on paper is good. We have some great guys in there. For whatever reason it just didn't click for us, yet I am confident that everyone rode their socks off, which is all that you can ask at the end of the day. “Folk tend to forget that speedway riders' pay is performance related. No points equals no points-money, in other words it is naturally in everyone's interest to score plenty of points, and consequently win meetings. No one loses on purpose, or can't be bothered. We all have bills to pay.” Staechmann is pleased for Robins fans who know the club will be back in business for the 2012 campaign despite such a horrendous year. He said: “We heard in Terry's (joint owner Terry Russell) interview at the Swindon Dinner & Dance, that speedway is safe at Swindon in 2012, regardless of whether his share of the club is sold or not, which is great to hear. We have yet to discuss details of my involvement. “I’d like to say thank you to the Swindon faithful for your support, both for the team and myself. From the first day I arrived at Swindon I was made to feel welcome by everyone I met, everyone involved, and that speaks volumes for the club and its supporters.” www.swindonrobins

Lets be honest it was fairly obvious where Rosco was always likely to end up.
But of course his return now means Jan Steachmann is out of a job again and that is a shame because this bloke knows what he is doing and has the medals to prove it.

Lets be honest it was fairly obvious where Rosco was always likely to end up. But of course his return now means Jan Steachmann is out of a job again and that is a shame because this bloke knows what he is doing and has the medals to prove it. ROSCO'S COMING HOMESWINDON Speedway are delighted to confirm the return of the hugely popular Alun Rossiter to his home town club as manager. Rossiter left the Abbey at the end of the 2009 season and went on to lead Coventry to the Elite League title in his first season in charge at Brandon. But he left the Bees last week after failing to agree a deal with their new owner Mick Horton and Robins chiefs Terry Russell and Gary Patchett wasted no time in setting up his return. Said ‘Rosco’: “This club still means a lot to me and that’s why I have agreed to come back so quickly, coupled with the fact that this is a crucial time in putting together a team. “I feel genuinely sad about the way the place has become so flat and I feel sorry for the promoters because on paper I don’t think the 2011 team was that bad, they just didn’t perform. “Some people will think I’m crazy for taking the job on, but in my view the only way from here is onwards and upwards and I want to play my part in bringing the enjoyment and feel good factor back to Swindon.” Robins co-owner Gary Patchett said the move has come completely out of the blue. He said: “The development at Coventry was completely unexpected. Alun had been very successful there and as soon as I was aware that he was leaving the Bees I did not hesitate to contact him to establish if he would be interested in a return to the Robins. “Alun has earnt his spurs at Coventry and shown that he is capable of delivering success, something of which he had been accused, in some quarters, of being unable to do previously. “When he called me, two years ago, to say he was leaving he asked me not to try to talk him out of it. I wish I had ignored him and tried harder! “Alun left a tremendous void at the club when he left two years ago and Terry and I will be the first to admit that we have failed to address that issue. “He brings more to the club than just the role of Team Manger. The value of a presence in the town cannot be understated and his passion for the sport and his home town club are visible for all to see. “He comes back to Swindon a more accomplished manager than the one that left in 2009 and is someone fully versed with how the club runs both on and off the track. With Terry taking a backseat in the running of the club that will be a tremendous asset for the club.” And Patchett has sung the praises of Jan Staechmann, who took charge of the team mid-way through last season. He said: “Jan accepted the offer to take over at a difficult time for the club but had an immediate impact on the team. “Whilst we had not agreed terms with Jan for 2012 that was only as a consequence of both of us having been abroad recently. I had no doubt that he would have been leading the team into next season and all our conversations had been with regard to the likely make up of next years team. “I would place on record my thanks to Jan for the thoroughly professional and diligent manner in which he undertook his role at a difficult time. Having given him the opportunity to enter team management at club level I have no doubt that other opportunities will come his way. Jan fully accepts and understands the decision that we have made in what are wholly unique circumstances.” robinsweb

ROBINS SIGN HOT DANE Wednesday November 23, 2011 SWINDON have swooped to sign hot Danish prospect Peter Kildemand as their first 2012 team member.
Kildemand, from Odense, makes the switch from Premier League Workington in a full transfer which sees American ace Kenny Ingalls heading in the opposite direction.
Robins boss Alun Rossiter worked with Kildemand during a brief spell with Coventry last season but his season was ended by injury.
Said Rossiter: “Peter impressed me massively and I am delighted to make a start to our team building with a rider of his quality who can only improve.
“I remember he came to Coventry and hit double figures straight away. I like to try and build teams with riders who have improvement in them and Peter has that in abundance.
“He’s a classy rider and I’m pleased he is joining us full-time and looking to progress his career by only riding in the Elite League rather than doubling-up. I like his ambition.”
Kildemand, a World Under-21 Cup winner with Denmark in 2010, is the first piece in the Robins team building jigsaw as bosses look to revive the club after two seasons in the doldrums.
