I've opened up the thread for all to see as this deserves a wider audience. Obviously I can't confirm the accuracy of those points as detailed but register and rebut if you disagree. I have not heard of anybody actually wanting this development, yet those in charge would have us believe that they due to their great benevolence are doing everyone a personal favour!!! Greed avarice and self interest more like!! Might help Rodders (from page 19 or their Design & Access statement) 1.1 The Site - Project History
The site is owned by the East of England Agricultural Society. The first meeting of the Peterborough Agricultural Society was held on 10 January 1797, but it was fifty years before land was acquired for its first Showground, on Bridge Street, in 1847. Over the subsequent 120 years the Society moved five times to different sites across Peterborough. The Society moved to its present Showground in 1966. The site was chosen for its good road connections and to be a more spacious home outside of the city. This new, larger Showground enabled the first annual East of England Show to take place in 1968, while the site also became a venue for other, non-agricultural events. Additional on-site facilities were built, including an Exhibition Hall, Speedway track, office and conference suites. In recent years, attendance at the East of England Agricultural Show steadily declined and following the 2012 event the decision was taken to cease holding an annual show. The Showground has continued to act as an events venue, with the revenue generated helping to fund the work of the Society. The evolution of Peterborough and subsequent developments over the last fifty years have seen the city expand so that the Showground – a firmly rural location in 1966 – is now situated on the edge of Peterborough’s south-western suburbs.
In order to facilitate our renewed focus on promoting agriculture and rural life, the East of England Agricultural Society feel it is time to move the Society’s headquarters from the East of England Showground to a more appropriate land holding in a new rural location to accommodate the Society’s staff and provide exhibition/conference space for educational events.
The Showground site was offered to Peterborough City Council to allocate for housing and employment uses, to meet the needs of the city as it continues to grow. The Peterborough Local Plan was subsequently adopted by the Council in July 2019 with an allocation development at the Showground site.
With the adoption of the Council’s Local Plan coinciding with our own plan to move to a new rural home, there is now an opportunity to deliver something special at the Showground site: not just new homes for Peterborough but a new, unique part of the city with its own sense of place and character, building on the rich legacy of the Society’s five decades there.

In a nutshell. These people don’t give toss about Speedway, doubt they even know what it is. It’s an opportunity for housing, big money and I don’t think anyone will stop it. That probably helps because PCC at least apparently recognises the worth of Peterborough Speedway to the city, hence adding in the provision of LP30 within their Local Plan. The East of England Agricultural Society and/or AEPG must have missed that. I agree that our future isn't at the EoES unless the application is refused and the plan shelved, so the EEAS/AEPG best option nay be to hang it out for 3 years and action or negotiate the removal of LP30 within the new updated local plan being produced around 2026/7? It's strange to say: "there is now an opportunity to deliver something special at the Showground site: not just new homes for Peterborough but a new, unique part of the city with its own sense of place and character, building on the rich legacy of the Society’s five decades there." Yes it's called Peterborough Speedway and it's already there

See from Speedway Star that Leicester up for sale!! Wonder how this will impact on Panthers future? Will Tomalin find it easier to buy Leicester than fight for Panthers? Don't think that he's bothered about getting that involved generally but just allegedly thought that he could save Peterborough which seems to be sleepwalking into agreed oblivion. If that's true about Leicester then the sport really is imploding and not worth investing (code for flushing money down the toilet) in

PETERBOROUGH Panthers have moved to bring in exciting Polish racer Patryk Wojdylo, who will be making his debut in British speedway when Panthers return to the EoES to face Wolverhampton on Monday 31/7/23 (7.30pm).The 24-year-old races for Rybnik in the second tier of the sport in his home country, alongside the likes of Brady Kurtz and Matej Zagar. Wojdylo has shown consistent form throughout the 2023 season, and has been paid for double figures in three of his last four league matches. That followed on from a successful winter where he won the Argentinean International Championship in a multi-round series. Wojdylo comes in on a 5.00 assessed average, and he will begin his UK career in the reserve berth with the club having taken the decision to release captain Hans Andersen. On the new signing, team boss Rob Lyon said: “Patryk has been recommended to us and we know he’s an exciting rider who the fans will enjoy watching. “Having spoken to various people it’s all been good, positive news that’s been coming out about him, and he’s keen to come and race in the UK. “We’ve looked at all options and I feel all in all that it’s a positive move, and we have to look onwards and upwards. “We have eight home matches to go and we want to get a good, consistent home track for the boys, and I’m sure that can be achieved. “It would be great to win the majority if not all of those matches to at least finish the season on a high.” (interesting that, unlike CJ would have said, he doesn't say the club's last season at the EoES: or am I reading too much in to that )Wojdylo’s arrival means the end of Andersen’s time with the Panthers – and this is no ordinary case of a rider leaving a club, because the Dane’s achievements speak for themselves and make him one of the club’s greatest ever riders. He has ridden for Panthers in nine seasons throughout a glittering career which peaked in the mid-2000s with a series of Grand Prix wins, and he was part of Peterborough’s league title winning teams in both 2006 and 2021. He also won the Elite League with Swindon in 2012. Lyon said: “It’s a very sad way to end for Hans if I’m honest, it’s not ideal and it’s not what we really wanted. “But I do think it was inevitable because he was struggling, and infrastructure-wise it’s been a problem for him all season behind the scenes. “What doesn’t change though is that he is a legend of the club, and he always will be. He deserves that status for what he’s achieved, not only for Peterborough but in World Speedway over the years. “We had to think about what’s best for the team, though. We still have lot of meetings to come at home and we need to give the fans something to shout about.” Well said Rob Lyon. It ends of a bit of a sour note which wasn't really necessary but there are more good memories than this unsatisfactory parting. Elite League Final 2006 - Peterborough Panthers v Reading Bulldogs - Heat 15 - to make a gate when needed to take Janusz Kolodziej out of the race and then ride shotgun for Ryan Sullivan whilst keeping Greg Hancock at bay - that's some ride, enjoy! Wolverhampton make their first visit of the season to the East of England Arena on Monday, and they currently sit third in the Sports Insure Premiership table. The Monmore men have a familiar looking outfit including Australian duo Sam Masters and Ryan Douglas, although Rory Schlein is a fitness doubt after an aborted comeback last week. The aggregate point is also up for grabs and with this being a Round 1 fixture Wolves lead 50-40 from their win in the West Midlands in early May. PETERBOROUGH: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Richie Worrall, Benjamin Basso, Ben Cook, Vadim Tarasenko, Patryk Wojdylo, Jordan Jenkins. WOLVERHAMPTON: Sam Masters, Steve Worrall, Luke Becker, Rory Schlein, Ryan Douglas, Zach Cook, Leon Flint.

Hans has been shocking for some time, but on the face of it his sacking has has not exactly covered the club in glory. The only thing that they've done though is try to be loyal to a rider who was seriously on the slide, living on past glories and unable to admit that his career at this level, at least, is over. You could also say credit to the club for giving him the chances that his application and form no longer warranted and also probably didn't deserve a 2023 place anyway? It was always likely to end in tears and the only surprise is that it's taken so long.

The £50m leisure complex development where the developers have sacked most of the Showground staff, sold most of the equipment and now can’t afford to even cut the grass, with planning permission for their development seemingly years away. The approach to the Showground on Joseph Odam Way to the left now looks like a jungle. Inside the Showground the grass is getting so long it holds so much water you can’t park on it. The hard standing car park being used for car storage and maintenance for a venture that as yet has no planning permission. The Speedway club now having to cut the grass around the track so spectators can stand there. Absolutely ridiculous, who the hell exactly have the East of England Agricultural Society (Showground owners) got into bed with here? If you feel as pissed off as I do (also as a resident locally) you can email the Interim Chief Executive Officer, Alistair Beattie of the East of England Agricultural Society at Alistair@eastofengland.org.uk and ask him to instruct his tenants to shape up.As time is running out fast for Panthers then a polite e-mail (stick to facts without excessive emotions) to say that nothing is going to happen at the EoES for a long while might be useful? Trashing the once superb East of England Showground site that was once a credit to the local area and city, whilst also making a perfectly serviceable city sporting venue unusable through the agent's neglect isn't going to be a good look for the East of England Agricultural Society or with PCC and any future planning application. There is no reason why Peterborough Panthers can't race on at the East of England Showground into 2024 at the very least and then leave, if and when necessary, under amicable circumstances rather than the unsatisfactory ending that is fast approaching. If you can't e-mail in a civil manner then don't bother

So Harris back Worrall gone

So Harris back Worrall gone Makes sense. Glad that Worrall got fixed up elsewhere and not just sacked. Harris is on the downslope but will not be passed for fun like Worrall. Chris Harris is making a dramatic return to the club – and he is back as captain!Panthers have moved to snap up the three-times former British Champion who played a huge part in their title success of 2021. He made the switch to Leicester over the winter but the Lions have now made their own changes following the suspension of Nick Morris, making Harris available to rejoin Panthers with Richie Worrall going the other way to Beaumont Park. Subject to BSP approval, the changes are set to be in place in time for Monday’s Sports Insure Premiership fixtures, with Panthers entertaining Ipswich at 7.30pm Team manager Rob Lyon said: “For us, it’s about trying to finish the season on a high, and last Monday’s defeat to Wolverhampton was a bit of a blow if I’m honest, especially to lose so heavily having won at King’s Lynn the previous Thursday. “We have to focus our attention on winning a good number of these home matches to give the fans something to shout about and finish the season on a better footing. “Clearly having Bomber back in the team makes us stronger, with all due respect to Richie. “It was a move that suited both parties, and both riders have agreed to the switch, and naturally we’re more than happy to have Bomber back and hopefully it will make a difference for us. “We didn’t want to lose him in the first place last winter but he’s back now, and he asked straight away to be captain – and in all honesty he’s the natural choice. “He knows the club, he knows all the people and whilst it’s a bit late in the day we’re delighted to have him back.” Harris takes over at No.1 with Niels-Kristian Iversen switching to No.5, but Panthers do have a doubt over Vadim Tarasenko for the clash with the Witches.
Tarasenko’s wife is due to give birth imminently, and he will naturally be with her for that event. Should he miss the meeting as a result, Panthers must use the rider replacement facility. The Witches have won at Leicester and King’s Lynn in the last week and are now making a late push for a top-four finish, with their top two spearhead of Emil Sayfutdinov and Jason Doyle in awesome form. Supporters should not that this meeting is NOT being televised live on Eurosport as originally intended, with the live coverage switching to Belle Vue v Sheffield as Tai Woffinden makes his debut for the Tigers. PETERBOROUGH: Chris Harris, (r/r - Vadim Tarasenko), Benjamin Basso, Ben Cook, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Patryk Wojdylo, Jordan Jenkins. IPSWICH: Emil Sayfutdinov, Erik Riss, Danny King, Keynan Rew, Jason Doyle, Danyon Hume, Dan Thompson. club website 6/8/23

Didn’t see that coming. Harris replacing Worrall is a positive. Don’t understand why they are letting Harris go. Other than it appears he doesn’t like their track. Doubt he can replicate last season but definitely an improvement. Great entertainer. Wouldn’t open the front door to watch Worrall. Although we are still in for a spanking tomorrow. 36-54.

Axed Peterborough Panthers skipper breaks his silence on his Showground departure and how he ended up as a Berwick Bandit
The Dane who was handed his P45 by the Panthers at the end of last month had to wait 24 hours for his first appearance for the Championship side. He quickly endeared himself to the Bandits fans despite finishing on the losing side as they went down by 10 points at home to defending champions Poole on Saturday night. Andersen was third top scorer with eight, paid nine points, including one win and a last race stoppage that denied him an even more impressive first appearance at Shielfield Park this year. He twice finished ahead of his ex-Panthers’ teammate Ben Cook, who doubles up riding for the Pirates, who moved into third place in the table as they chase a third successive league title.
The 42-year-old Peterborough legend should have made his Berwick bow at Scunthorpe on Friday night before the meeting fell victim to the weather but he slotted straight into his new team even though he had not ridden in a competitive meeting since Peterborough’s defeat at Leicester on July 6.
Two-time World Cup gold medallist Andersen admits that he wasn’t expecting to be shown the pits exit by the club he helped to a memorable league championship less than two years ago. Andersen said: “I don’t know if it came as a shock when I was told I was being released. I probably would have understood it if the club had been in a different position, if we had been pushing for the play-offs or in a play-off position. “There was nothing we could do that would get us into the play-offs. We can beat King’s Lynn for the wooden spoon place, but that is all. “Even though I had not been performing to what is expected and hadn’t performed as well as I wanted to, I felt I had a lot of stick for the team losing when there were other members of the team who were not performing as well. “I didn’t have any massive scores, but I wasn’t signed to have any massive scores as others were. “I wasn’t enjoying it at all but, again, I would have liked to have seen the season out. I had a very good time with the club and I felt that loyalty had gone out of the window. I am not going to say anything bad about my time with Peterborough because I have had such good times there. “There had been rumours for a long time where we were going to make changes, but I never felt they were going to get rid of me. Because we couldn’t reach the play-offs, I was thinking they would ride the season out and if they were running again next year we would all start with a clean slate.”
Andersen was only one of five riders who have seen their average drop this season with winter capture Ben Cook the only regular to have improved. Andersen’s average has gone down by half a point a match, from 4.93 to 4.41, but both number one Niels-Kristian Iversen and Ben Basso have suffered even bigger drops in their performances. Claimed Andersen: “I felt I was given more stick and people were giving me a harder time than some of the other people in the team who also weren’t doing as well as we should have done.”
Andersen had a glittering career in his three spells with the club. He was the title-winning hero in the dramatic last race Grand Final victory over Reading in 2006 and a vital member of the triumphant 2021 ‘Dad’s Army’ side that both topped the table in the regular season and went on to beat Belle Vue in the Grand Final. He made more than 200 appearances in Panthers’ colours and was awarded the captaincy this year after former skipper Scott Nicholls’ decision to quit the top-flight.
Added the Dane: “I wasn’t enjoying having to fly over every meeting because there was so much, surrounding riding the bike, with the atmosphere not being there. “I was pretty okay with the thought I wasn’t going to ride in England. I had still got the Danish League and I had still got my job with Discovery, I work for Eurosport commentating on the Grands Prix on Danish TV. “But there were clubs asking for my services. I was okay not riding in England, but when I looked at it the fixtures of the various clubs interested in me, Berwick had a busy month in August with six meetings. “I have got my equipment in England and the agreement we came to was pretty good. I needed to just take my bikes up there and they have taken them off me so I can just turn up and ride.”
Andersen has admitted that he believes one of the reasons for his below par form was his lack of a full-time mechanic and having to drive to Spalding to pick up his bikes every meeting. Berwick have guaranteed to keep his machines in tip-top condition between meetings and he will fly from Denmark to Edinburgh and after meetings he will get a lift with Bandits’ teammate Rory Schlein who will drop him off at Birmingham Airport for an early morning flight back to Denmark. Andersen added: “It would be different if I lived in England but I was flying in on race days early morning to get transport to where my bikes where based and then driving to the track as well for my meeting mechanic to turn up at the track. “I was leaving my house at seven in the morning on a race day and it would be non-stop with everything. It just took quite a deal out of me doing that. “I was knackered before I even thought about riding in the meeting. There was so much to do around it before I even got to ride my bike. “It was definitely something I had never been used to and you have got to have a clear mind before you go out on the track for your first race.”

Pretty depressing comments from Chapman in Programme and on mike. Really seems like the end I've put the article in the pre meeting thread Rodders. I've gone through the programme umpteen times and can't see a copyright message (if anyone can then let me know). Almost ruined an excellent evening before it had started didn't it? Thankfully a great effort by the Panthers 6 saved the evening. It would be interesting to know what that huge effort behind the scenes has been in terms of saving the club because I've not seen anything publicly (or official sources as the piece points to) and my recent communications seem to suggest that we're not making a fuss and rolling over? I remember 20 years or so ago when Mercer arrived and threw a paddy about the number of cars in the EoES, Jim Lynch allegedly (well I think the ET ran it) threatened to take the Showground administration to court Bit over the top if my memory serves me right but just as a comparison: here we are facing extinction and just outwardly are seemingly giving the EEAS/AEPG a free pass. As has been said, no we can't stop a multi million pound project of some sort when planning is approved but it can all end in a much more acceptable and amicable fashion? Chapman said on the mic that these things happen and clubs fold? That is true but those clubs don't usually have a local plan with a specific provision, which we assume was included by someone to save Peterborough Speedway, to aid their fight. AEPG have told us that we can't run in 2024, which suggests that we would apart from that block from them. He doesn't make clear if we would run, or who would do it (given the no offers line), because he allegedly also wishes to knock it on the head at the end of 2023? That's not helping the club IMHO and has unfortunately been part of the problem?. All that does is allow the site & speedway infrastructure to sit and deteriorate until it agrees with LP30 part k. Anyone from official sources is free to clarify and to say that's all wrong as well.
