Coventry are believed to be in the hunt for the likes of Hans Andersen, Kenni Larsen, Edward Kennett and Ryan Fisher for their 2011 team.
Team manager Alun Rossiter admits the club’s nightmare off-season has left him “mentally drained.” But he believes the Elite League will be better off with ten teams – one up on last year.
He told Sky Sports News: “We’re just looking forward now to a great 10-team league this year.
“We’ve been crying out for more teams in the league and we’ve finally got it. There’s no point looking back – let’s look forward.

Coventry Bees wait for lawyers to confirm Elite League return
COVENTRY’S last-gasp return to defend their Elite League title should be rubber-stamped within the next 24 hours.
Agreement has been reached in principle between the Brandon outfit and the British Speedway Promoters’ Association for them to enter the top flight after a bitter winter-long dispute over rule changes and the way decisions are made within the sport.
It was widely reported on Tuesday that both Bees and Peterborough, the other club in dispute, are back but nothing has been confirmed by the clubs or the BSPA.
The delay appears to be down to the fact that legal representatives have to agree on the terms of any settlement after the threat of court action over the last four months.
But positive talks have taken place between all parties and an announcement now appears to be nothing more than a formality.
Both Coventry and Peterborough’s websites have remained down since Tuesday morning – when a statement was first expected to have been made – although this is thought to be a protective measure to ensure the sites do not crash before the statement is issued.
That in itself is an indication of the level of interest which this story has gained throughout the sport worldwide ever since it was first confirmed last November that the Bees and the Panthers were in dispute with the BSPA.
Back then, nobody could possibly have envisaged the saga rumbling on into the new season but supporters and riders will all remain anxious until the matter is finally put to bed for good.

Coventry Bees
They have Hans Andersen leading their team and have got Ed Kennett in there too. They also have Przemyslaw Pawlicki from last year who was a bit of a sensation. It is going to be difficult for them to repeat their success of 2010, especially after all the controversy but they are a professional outfit and I think they will do well. Once they settle down I expect them to be a team challenging for a play-off place.

COVENTRY’S official press and practice session will go ahead today – with the Bees fully expecting to launch the Brandon season this weekend.
With confusion still the order of the day as far as legal confirmation of their Elite League return is concerned, the Buildbase Bees will take to the track from around 5pm with several new signings on show.
Danish star Hans Andersen is taking over as No.1, and fellow countryman Kenni Larsen is another big-name signing by the Brandon club, with Ryan Fisher set to return having not raced for his parent outfit since 2003.
Press and practice should also provide confirmation of the Bees’ plans for the remaining doubling-up positions in their squad.
They will be declaring one rider to share a team spot in the top five with Richard Sweetman, and another to come in at reserve with Josh Auty.
The expectation then is for the Bees to race a challenge match against fellow returnees Peterborough at the Showground on Thursday, before a return on home territory on Saturday at 7.30pm.
They would then revert to their normal Friday race-night the following week for the start of their Elite League title defence.
All supporters are welcome at the stadium today from 5pm.

COVENTRY 56 BRUMMIES 38
BIRMINGHAM went down to a 56-38 defeat at neighbours Coventry in their first Elite League derby of the season on Friday.
Danny King was top man for the Perry Barr side with a string of impressive rides in his 13-point haul and Ben Barker notched 7+2 on his return to Brandon after leaving Coventry during the winter.
King worked hard for his points but didn’t get the support he needed, particularly from former Coventry man Krzysztof Kasprzak who made an unsuccessful return and failed to win a race.
Home skipper Edward Kennett was at his brilliant best with a 15-point maximum to inspire the reigning champions in their opening league outing of the season.
Brummies boss Graham Drury said: “We were better than our last meeting at Eastbourne but there are still some performances within the team which need to improve.”
Birmingham also lost Daniel Nermark after an awkward tumble and he suffered suspected concussion.
COVENTRY 56: Edward Kennett 15, Przemyslaw Pawlicki 10+1, Hans Andersen 9, Kenni Larsen 8, Richard Sweetman 5+2, Ryan Fisher 5+1, Nick Morris 4+1.
BIRMINGHAM 38: Daniel King 13, Krzysztof Kasprzak 9+1, Ben Barker 7+2, Aaron Summers 3, Theo Pijper 3, Ales Dryml 2, Daniel Nermark 1.

EMIL IS ON HIS WAY!
COVENTRY Buildbase Bees are delighted to announce that Russian sensation Emil Sayfutdinov is set to join the club next week.
The Buildbase Bees have submitted a re-declared line-up which would come into effect for next Wednesday’s trip to King’s Lynn, subject to usual BSPA clearance and confirmation of start permission from the rider’s Federation.
21-year-old Sayfutdinov, who will come into the team as a replacement for the injured Hans Andersen, exploded onto the Grand Prix scene two years ago, winning two of the first three events of the season before eventually finishing a stunning third in the World.
Injuries hampered his 2010 campaign but he is back to fitness this year and thrilling the crowds once again – and he has elected to join the Buildbase Bees rather than race regularly in Sweden.
His debut will be at the Norfolk Arena on Wednesday, and his first Brandon appearance is pencilled in for the already mouth-watering clash with title favourites Poole on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30.
Co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “It’s an absolutely massive signing not only for us, but also for British Speedway, and everyone should see the benefits from it. Emil is box office, he’s the rider everyone is talking about and it’s another big boost for speedway in this country after we’ve already seen Nicki (Pedersen) come back.
“I hope Jonathan (Chapman) at King’s Lynn gets a huge crowd on Wednesday and I’m sure Brandon will be packed for Emil’s home debut on the Bank Holiday Monday.
“Emil is so keen to come here, and I was amazed by what I saw when I went out to Poland earlier in the week to tie the deal up. He is just so professional, and we can’t wait for him to get started with us.
“I know there will be some people who will question his commitment as we’re bringing him in with the season already started, but I can assure them I have absolutely no concerns whatsoever having been out to see him. In fact, Emil has already gone out of his way to make himself available for our fixtures after we e-mailed them across earlier this month.
”We have been through the dates and Emil will be available for the vast majority of our meetings. There’s currently one fixture clash which we’re working on, but that’s all, obviously apart from a couple of matches on Grand Prix dates.
”I believe he will take to the Elite League like a duck to water, I think it’s massive news for the sport in this country and we could see the same effect on crowds that there was when Tomasz Gollob first came to ride for Ipswich in 1998.
“I go back a long way with Tony Rickardsson, who has been advising Emil, and his manager Susi (Tomasz Suskiewicz) has also been so helpful and keen to make this happen, and all of that has helped bring him here.
“I’ve got to thank our owner Mr Sandhu for giving us the green light to make this possible, and also Colin (Pratt) for all of the organisational work he’s done, and it’s something that everyone can look forward to.”

BUILDBASE BEES 58 LAKESIDE 34COVENTRY Buildbase Bees roared to their biggest win of the season with several strong performances in a convincing display against Lakeside. Winter signing Kenni Larsen enjoyed his best night in the Elite League with a stunning paid-16 haul, and Josh Auty picked himself up from a heavy crash to produce a string of fine overtaking moves. Bees looked to be in big trouble with both reserves going down in separate incidents in Heat 2, Auty on the second bend and then Richard Sweetman piled into the fourth-bend fence in an unusual incident after the race had been stopped. Sweetman, after racing in the re-run, was withdrawn from the meeting on doctor’s advice, with Auty taking extra rides as a result and frequently blasting his way around the Hammers on the third and fourth turns. Bees trailed 14-16 after five heats but then hit the Hammers with four straight 5-1s, with Auty going from fourth to second in Heats 7 and 8, and Larsen and Ryan Fisher edging out Lakeside stand-in captain Robert Mear in Heat 9. Mear rode well for the visitors who were also well-served by two ex-Coventry guests in Rory Schlein and Ricky Wells as their middle-order struggled – and their hopes of taking anything from the meeting were dashed in Heat 11 when Schlein, going for double points, was overhauled by Auty on the first lap with the Bees man holding on for a terrific 5-1 with guest Troy Batchelor. The final 5-1 of the night came in the penultimate race with Larsen and Auty again to the fore, but after Sweetman’s withdrawal all five remaining Bees riders contributed well to the result with former skipper Chris Harris notching the highest score of his guest appearances this season. Larsen said: “It was a good night, and hopefully that’s what you’re going to see a lot more of from me from now on! “I’m feeling a lot more confident, and it was also a good team performance. Me and (Ryan) Fisher have got it sorted now and I think he’s the best partner I’ve had so far. “We’ve probably both been more individual riders in our careers so far but we’re working well together and I like riding with him. I feel settled here, I’m relaxed and I’m looking forward to the next meeting.” BUILDBASE BEES 58: Kenni Larsen 15+1, Chris Harris 14+2, Josh Auty 10+4, Troy Batchelor 10, Ryan Fisher 8+4, Richard Sweetman 1, Edward Kennett r/r. @mike_Bacon Mike Bacon#speedway Unbelievable. Coventry v Lynn scheduled for Friday OFF. Find out why and make your own mind up . . . . lovespeedway24.co.uk
well bugger me, I was going to go to this, although it looks like a rain off anyway Coventry Bees forced to postpone Kings Lynn clash due to a lack of ridersCOVENTRY’S home match against King’s Lynn tomorrow has been postponed – because they would be unable to raise a credible team. The Buildbase Bees were facing the prospect of going into the meeting with only Emil Sayfutdinov of their top five available due to the weekend round of World Championship qualifiers, and with options to replace them severely restricted. Skipper Edward Kennett and Ryan Fisher are both competing in Esbjerg in Denmark tomorrow, with Kenni Larsen named at reserve for the same meeting, whilst Przemyslaw Pawlicki races at Czech Republic venue Divisov on Saturday, with an early morning practice session scheduled. Earlier in the week it appeared that at least two of those riders could still be available for the Bees but it has now emerged that they would face federation bans if they opted out of the World Championship. Co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “I know people will be asking why this decision wasn’t taken earlier but we’ve been burning the midnight oil with getting a team together for this meeting. “At one stage it looked like at least a couple of the riders would be able to still line up for us but unfortunately they are now under the threat of bans if they do not compete in their World Championship meetings. “It’s not our normal policy to call meetings off but to run a meeting in those circumstances would make a mockery of things. We know how hard it’s been with being without members of our regular team lately but this would have been much worse. “The consolation is that at least it’s only three days after that we have our next home meeting, with Eastbourne in town, and we should finally have a full team for that one.” The postponement further delays the home debut of Russian sensation Emil Sayfutdinov, who will now make his first Brandon appearance in the Eastbourne fixture on Monday, and speculation is growing that Bees are planning to make a team change to bolster their lower-order. They were heavily outscored at reserve by Swindon in last week’s home defeat, although the situation could be eased by the return of Nick Morris from a broken collarbone. The Australian youngster has been out for three weeks but is set to make his comeback for his Premier League club Glasgow over the weekend and he will then race for the Bees on Monday. www.coventrytelegraph

Sayfutdinov is very happy with his move to Coventry in British Elite League. The 21-year-old confirmed he is ready to stay at Brandon for the rest of the season and admits he is enjoying the atmosphere in the Bees camp. He said: “I like it at Coventry. Everything is relaxed and we have a very good team. It’s a good experience for me.” sgp

BUILDBASE BEES 49 KING'S LYNN 44COVENTRY Buildbase Bees added two points to their Elite League total with victory over King’s Lynn – but they were denied the chance to go for all three in a hugely controversial finale to the meeting. Russian star Emil Sayfutdinov was remarkably disqualified from Heat 15 having overtaken Mads Korneliussen for second place, with the King’s Lynn man then falling on his own at the end of the first lap. Although outstanding guest Tai Woffinden then defeated the visitors’ top man Kenneth Bjerre in the re-run, the five point margin of victory was enough for Lynn to salvage a point. It had been an adventurous home debut for Sayfutdinov, who was involved in a first-bend Heat 1 pile-up with Ryan Fisher and Tomas Topinka before sharing in a 5-1 with Kenni Larsen in Heat 6, winning Heat 10 and then retrieving third place from Olly Allen in Heat 13. Bjerre, who started with four straight wins including one for double points in Heat 11, was given sporadic support from Korneliussen and Allen, which was enough to keep the Stars in the hunt. And they could have set up a very nervous finale only for Filip Sitera to grind to a halt in the penultimate race just as he and Topinka looked to be moving into a 5-1 position. That effectively sealed match victory for the Bees, but they needed an advantage from Heat 15 for all three points and Sayfutdinov’s disqualification ended those hopes, much to the fury of a bumper crowd who cheered Woffinden – usually a fierce local rival with Wolverhampton – to the rafters for his win in the re-run. Bees co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “We had a bit of luck in Heat 14 with Sitera stopping, but the decision in Heat 15 was absolutely atrocious. We got out-gated, Emil went under Mads and there was plenty of room, they didn’t come close to touching and Mads came off. “Like football, I think we have to look at using technology. Okay, some decisions go for you and some against you, but everyone could see this yet the referee was adamant that Emil went across Mads' line. When you see the replay, it’s more and more infuriating. “I’m still pleased with the win, especially being without several riders, and we couldn’t have asked any more from Tai. He gave everything for the cause and I can’t thank him enough. Some people say riders don’t give their all when they guest, but Tai certainly did that and more tonight.” beesweb
A cruel mechanical failure for Filip Sitera cost the Stars a shot of winning at Coventry tonight – but they did take a consolation point from a dramatic Brandon encounter. Sitera had worked his way to the front of Heat 14 and a King’s Lynn 5-1 looked likely, only for his bike to stop and the visitors had to be content with a 3-3. The home fans had come out in force to witness the home debut of Emil Sayfutdinov, but the Russian found himself on the deck in a spectacular start to the meeting in Heat 1 as three riders – Sayfutdinov, his team-mate Ryan Fisher and Stars’ Tomas Topinka all came to grief on the first bend. Fortunately there were no injuries and Kenneth Bjerre took control of the re-run as the match opened up with two shared races. Coventry went in front with a 5-1 in Heat 3, Fisher storming from the gate and Kenni Larsen easing Mads Korneliussen aside off the second bend, and Olly Allen then lost out in a fierce first-bend battle with home guest Tai Woffinden in the next. Bjerre and Korneliussen reduced the arrears to two points with a 4-2 in Heat 5, having been split by Larsen in the early stages, but a blow came in Heat 6 as the Bees notched another 5-1 from fast-gating Larsen and Sayfutdinov who left Allen trailing. Then in Heat 7 the visitors gated but Korneliussen inadvertently took Topinka wide on turn two and Woffinden slipped through to lead – with Topinka losing third place on the run to the line when he lifted and Nick Morris passed him. Stars would have hoped for points in Heat 8 against the Bees reserves but Sitera fell on the first bend, before Allen prevented further damage with a committed first lap to hold off the challenge of Larsen in another shared Heat 9. Korneliussen did well to split Sayfutdinov and Woffinden in Heat 10 which gave Stars the chance for a tactical ride in the next, and Bjerre took the full six-pointer with Allen re-passing the enthusiastic Morris for a King’s Lynn 7-2. That halved the gap to five points and a 4-2 in the next with Korneliussen taking the flag kept the comeback on, as Coventry held a narrow 39-36 lead with three heats to go. Bjerre was finally beaten by Woffinden in Heat 13 but Sitera looked set to become a hero when he took the lead of the next race – but just as Topinka was following him through for a potentially match-turning 5-1, Sitera’s bike expired and they were left five points down. There was huge drama in Heat 15, with Sayfudtinov controversially disqualified when Korneliussen went down, and that effectively secured a point for the Stars even though Woffinden won the re-run. edp Coventry = 491. BUILDBASE BEES 56 SWINDON 37CONDITIONS were tricky but the Buildbase Bees made the best of them to record a comfortable win and set themselves up well for two more important home matches. It hadn’t been the best of weeks, even though Coventry themselves had not completed a meeting, with Lakeside’s win at Birmingham on Thursday putting the Hammers firmly back into the top-four battle, and with Peterborough taking six points out of six at home and Wolves also drawing at Belle Vue, it was vital that the Bees gave nothing away at Brandon. Swindon have often proved to be difficult opponents, but on this occasion with close to a full strength team it was Coventry who were dominant virtually from start to finish, with the improved gating being a notable feature of this display. There were several impressive performances, headed by Ryan Fisher who scored a welcome four-ride paid maximum, the American and Kenni Larsen ensuring that Bees would be able to cope with a rare off-night for Przemyslaw Pawlicki. With Emil Sayfutdinov growing in confidence at Brandon and using some exciting racing lines, and Edward Kennett solid and fast, the Bees were well-served in their top order, and there was further encouragement at reserve with youngster Nick Morris picking up his best-ever Elite League score. Meanwhile Coventry were grateful to Tyson Burmeister for accepting a late call to guest after Josh Auty was injured racing for Sheffield on Thursday – and it was easy to see why Wolverhampton have been keen to persevere with the American on a steep Elite League learning curve, as Burmeister was well on the pace and picked up several useful points thanks to a number of smart first bend moves. Track conditions were damp in the early stages, although a pre-meeting track inspection confirmed that the circuit would be fine for racing as long as there was no more significant rainfall. Although there were a few falls, there were no riders getting into major difficulty so the decision was certainly vindicated, and both sides did well to push the meeting through and ensure all fifteen races were run, although with heavy rain falling during the last race it’s debatable whether there would have been any further action beyond that stage. Bees made good use of gates 1 and 3 in three of the first four races with a number of fast starts, former skipper Scott Nicholls being left trailing from the outside in Heat 1 before determinedly making his way inside Sayfutdinov on a tricky third bend – but Larsen held a perfect line throughout and prevented the Robins’ No.1 from finding a way through. Morris once again showed his talent with a dominant show in Heat 2, making the start from gate two and winning by a distance, with Burmeister unfortunate after going third on the back straight, as he went wide on turn three as Taylor Poole made a good passing move, with the recovering Burmeister back up with Kenny Ingalls by the end of the race. Bees looked set for their first 5-1 of the night in Heat 3 as Fisher and Pawlicki led for most of the way – but a mistake from Pawlicki at the end of lap three saw him go too wide and allow fellow Pole Maciej Janowski through on the inside, and as Pawlicki tried to hit back around the second bend of lap four, he made a further error and Nicolai Klindt snatched third. Bees did, though, extend their lead in Heat 4 as Kennett got the better of Simon Stead around the first couple of bends, the Swindon riders nearly tangling as Stead locked on turn two, whilst Burmeister held the kerb to move inside Ingalls on the way into the back straight for a Coventry 4-2. Nicholls again found himself chasing in Heat 5 and could not make any serious impression on the flying Fisher, with the third place for Jesper B Monberg ahead of Pawlicki turning out to be the experienced Dane’s only point of the night. The signs were that the Bees weren’t too far away from taking control of the meeting, and they took a step towards doing that with a big 5-1 from Larsen and Sayfutdinov in Heat 6, despite an enthusiastic challenge by Poole on the back straight on the Russian. Poole, however, fell later in the race on turn one and remounted to allow the race to continue with Stead inheriting third place. Finally the Swindon riders gated in Heat 7, Kennett seeming to be squeezed out in between Klindt and Janowski, but again it was an important move by Burmeister who came from the outside right to the inside kerb and squeezed inside Janowski just as Kennett was going around the outside. That left Janowski at the back whilst Klindt and Kennett indicated that the conditions were greatly improved as they both found a fast line out wide with Klindt clocking easily the quickest time of the night. But the Robins’ night was about to get much worse, starting in Heat 8 in which Larsen made it three wins out of three whilst successive errors by Ingalls and then Monberg allowed Morris the opportunity to pick his way through from fourth to second and put the Bees twelve points up. Twelve became sixteen with back to back 5-1s completed in Heat 9, Pawlicki getting it right to join Fisher up-front again and stay there this time, as Stead fell on turn three of the second lap whilst in third place. Again, the fallen rider remounted quickly which was good to see, and the Bees were certainly pleased to see the scoreline of 35-19 ahead of tactical rides for the Robins. Recently-appointed team boss Jan Staechmann had no option but to deploy his only race-winner, Klindt, in black and white in Heat 10 despite facing a tough pairing, but after not making the best of starts Klindt spun on the inside of the first bend and went down, resulting in double-zero on the tactical ride. The re-run looked entirely likely to be another Coventry 5-1 as Sayfutdinov and Larsen raced clear of Janowksi, but Larsen made his one mistake of the night at the end of the third lap and fell, re-mounting quickly to take third place for a 4-2. Nicholls enjoyed more success when taking his tactical ride in Heat 11, securing what was to be his only win of the night in a fast, fair duel with Kennett who looked fast but couldn’t find a way through – and the visitors were limited to a 6-3 with Monberg convincingly beaten into third place by Morris. Heat 12 produced plenty of action with Poole in particular in the wars – firstly with Fisher and Burmeister holding a clear 5-1, Janowski moved far too strongly inside his team-mate and brought him down on turn four, to earn himself a disqualification. The re-run again saw Fisher up front but this time Burmeister’s drive inside Poole saw the young Australian come down again on, and it has to be said that Burmeister was more than fortunate to gain an all-three re-start, from which he made no mistakes this time to join Fisher for the 5-1 which they had held in the initial staging. Rain was beginning to come down again for the final three races, but several of the top riders showed exactly why they are with some terrific battles late in the meeting, with Kennett surging around Nicholls into the third bend of Heat 13 with Stead doing well to get the better of Sayfutdinov for third place. Klindt led Heat 14 which was heading for a 3-3 until Pawlicki ended a trying night with a fall on the fourth bend when trying too hard, and whilst he was trying to clear the track having landed some way from his bike, the race had to be stopped and was awarded as a 4-2, which allowed just enough time to run Heat 15 as the conditions worsened. That turned out to be an excellent decision because the final race produced some fine action with Sayfutdinov determined to make amends for Heat 13, but initially it was Nicholls who starred as he blasted between the Russian and Larsen on the back straight. Sayfutdinov, though, wasn’t taking that and he kept on the outside taking plenty of speed and an unusual line into the bend, especially given the rain, and it took him spectacularly into the lead. With the rain seeming to intensify during the race, it was a case of survival for the remaining laps, and the Bees finished with a 4-2 with Larsen ahead of Klindt. A super showing from Coventry, arguably their best of the season notwithstanding the 58-34 win over Lakeside in May, and it comes at a very good time indeed with the Poole showdown on the way on Monday! BUILDBASE BEES 48 BIRMINGHAM 45FORMER Coventry star Krzysztof Kasprzak swept through the card with an 18-point maximum for Birmingham – as the Buildbase Bees secured a narrow win but were limited to two points from the meeting. Kasprzak, under-fire at Perry Barr after a below-par season so far, showed exactly the form which made him such a favourite at Brandon last year when he helped the Bees to the Elite League title, with five fast starts and the home side were unable to find a way through. Despite the Brummies’ recent form, it was never likely to be a straightforward meeting with the Bees missing Grand Prix rider Emil Sayfutdinov, and the injured Przemek Pawlicki and Peter Kildemand – although it must be said that Birmingham themselves were without former Coventry man Ben Barker. Bees worked hard to establish a lead in the first half of the meeting with Kenni Larsen recovering from a first-ride last place to record a series of wins, and by Heat 8 they had gone eight points up. There was a let-off when Ales Dryml ground to a halt when the Brummies appeared set for a 5-1 in Heat 10, but after Bees moved into a 41-31 lead with three races to go, Kasprzak went for double points in Heat 13 and received strong support from Daniel King as the visitors recorded a shock 8-1. Suddenly the match itself was up for grabs and when Dryml and Ulrich Ostergaard somehow kept the thrusting Josh Auty behind them for a share of the points in Heat 14, the position was that if Kasprzak and King could repeat their previous feat, the Brummies would snatch a 47-46 win. Bees, on the other hand, required a 5-1 of their own for all three points from the meeting – but the outcome was that both teams took some reward as Kasprzak jetted from the start and then held off a very fast Edward Kennett for the race win, with Larsen third ahead of King. It gave Bees two points from the meeting and Birmingham one – completing a week in which Coventry have taken eight points from three home matches, and now they enter a crucial phase of fixtures on the road which will go a long way to determining their play-off chances. Boss Alun Rossiter said: “No complaints about the result, it’s a bit disappointing that we couldn’t take the nine points although we’d probably have taken eight before the week and it’s another win which is important. “It’s not the ideal scenario having so many riders missing again but I’m not knocking Birmingham, they came here and battled and Kasprzak certainly haunted us. “I’m waiting to hear on Pawlicki, he was in hospital yesterday although I think he’s out now, and he’s said to me he’ll let me know if he’s going to try to ride over the weekend, because obviously we need to know about Belle Vue on Monday where we will have a guest with Emil (Sayfutdinov) not being there.” BUILDBASE BEES 48: Edward Kennett 13, Kenni Larsen 12+1, Ryan Fisher 10+1, Nicolai Klindt 5+2, Filip Sitera 5+2, Josh Auty 3+1, Przemek Pawlicki R/R. Must be missing something here? Can't see an explanation for the missing Russian BUILDBASE BEES 41 BELLE VUE 49RORY Schlein made a highly successful return to Brandon in steering Belle Vue to a shock away win – and in the process dent the play-off ambitions of his parent club. Schlein dropped just one point from six rides and was ably supported by three other former Buildbase Bees riders with Jordan Frampton especially catching the eye as the Aces collected all four points from an eight-point success on the night. For the Bees, it was a catalogue of disaster and one which puts massive pressure on their forthcoming away matches at Peterborough and Swindon if they are to remain in contention for a top four place and a shot at the title. They went into the meeting with just five riders – operating rider-replacement for the suspended Edward Kennett, but with Nick Morris becoming unavailable at a late stage, and his planned replacement Josh Auty unable to reach the stadium in time. That meant Bees could only track one rider in three races, although the early signs were good as Kenni Larsen and guest Davey Watt scored a 5-1 over Chris Harris in the opener, and debutant Piotr Pawlicki was a popular winner of Heat 2. But things quickly turned against Bees with captain Ryan Fisher suffering a string of problems, including a disqualification for bringing down Ricky Kling in Heat 3, and then bike failures. Larsen’s fast gating kept Bees in touch, but what would have been a terrific 5-1 from the Pawlicki brothers in Heat 9 suddenly turned into a Belle Vue 4-2 when Piotr fell going into the last lap whilst defending from Schlein, who then took advantage to switch inside Przemek for the win. With Schlein and Harris covering the later races, the Aces always looked to be in control and the killer blow came when the big two combined for maximum points over Watt and the senior Pawlicki in Heat 13. Harris was disqualified from the last race for bringing down Larsen, who was easily Coventry’s top performer, but Schlein held on for an on-the-line verdict against Przemek Pawlicki in the re-run to make sure of all four points for his side. Co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “It was an escalation of problems that occurred for us, with other things behind the scenes not helping us out, but I don’t want to comment further at this stage. “We have to focus, move on and hopefully get a full side together for Peterborough a week on Monday. We ran them close there last time and this is now a meeting we have to win.” BUILDBASE BEES 41: Kenni Larsen 13+2, Przemek Pawlicki 10, Davey Watt 8, Piotr Pawlicki 5+1, Ryan Fisher 5, Josh Auty did not ride, Edward Kennett r/r. I went to this, was no surprise to me that the Aces won, no Emil due to his GP crash, Aces full of ex Coventry riders then the farce of a six man Bees outfit.

BUILDBASE BEES 51 EASTBOURNE 42
COVENTRY legends Chris Harris and Scott Nicholls turned back the clock with terrific guest performances to help their parent club maintain their late charge towards the Elite League play-offs.
Harris and Nicholls, who won multiple honours during their time at Brandon, secured a brilliant Heat 13 5-1 just when the Buildbase Bees were coming under mounting pressure from Eastbourne – and they also held their nerve to ensure all three points in a vital Heat 15 of a thoroughly entertaining fixture.
Victory moves the Bees on to 42 points with three matches remaining – two away at Eastbourne, and one at home to King’s Lynn. Lakeside have now finished on 46, with a superior points difference, so the likely equation for the Bees is that they need to win at home to King’s Lynn (Thursday September 15) and take a total of two points from their two trips to Eastbourne – either with a draw, or with two narrow defeats in order to secure one point from each visit. Matters could be made easier if Birmingham could pull off a shock away win at King’s Lynn on Wednesday, as that would also drag the Stars very much back into the battle.
Bees looked comfortable in the early stages against the Eagles, racing into a 16-8 lead before being pegged back by consecutive Eastbourne 4-2s in Heats 5 and 6.
Harris won the next two races in fine style, rounding Simon Gustafsson at the end of lap one in Heat 7 and then spectacularly going between Gustafsson and Cameron Woodward on the back straight in the next race.
A 5-1 from Nicholls and captain Ryan Fisher in Heat 10 took Bees ten points clear, but the Eagles hit back after the interval with Bjarne Pedersen winning a tactical ride – and the 7-2 in that race was followed by a 5-1 from Gustafsson and Woodward in the next, which could easily have been a killer blow as Bees urgently needed to win the match by more than six points, and their lead on the night was down to just one.
Nicholls and Harris looked in trouble at the start of Heat 13 when Pedersen gated with team-mate Joonas Kylmakorpi also in touch – but the Bees duo shot past their rivals one by one on the exit of turn two, with Harris then fending off a repeat challenge from Kylmakorpi.
With another good-sized Friday night crowd at Brandon roaring the riders on, Kenni Larsen and Nick Morris followed up with another massive 5-1 in the next race, seeing off Woodward and former Coventry man Lewis Bridger to make sure of the win.
Eastbourne needed a 5-1 in the last heat to take a point off the Bees, and from the gate it looked like they might have it – but in a race in which the positions never seemed settled, Harris passed Pedersen into second place and as he chased leader Kylmakorpi, Nicholls provided added insurance by making his way into third spot at the end of a cracking night of racing.
Bees boss Alun Rossiter said: “We’ve had two cracking meetings in the last two nights, the tactical ride nearly undid us again but fortunately Scott and Chris came to the front for us.
“I’m really pleased for them both because Scott will tell you he’s probably had the worst season he’s ever had. He’s better than that, but tonight I think the pressure was off him and he looked like the Scott Nicholls of old.
“It was great for Bomber too, we loaned him an engine and I think he wants to take it to Vojens now (for next weekend’s Grand Prix)! We want to see him do well and as I said earlier, a big thanks to Belle Vue because we’ve used Chris and Rory Schlein on several occasions this season, and without their co-operation life would have been very hard for us.
“Again, it was a good all-round performance – Kenni was superb once more, Nick came up with a great ride when we really needed it, Fish plugged away, and it was good for Todd to get his first Elite League point too, so I’m really happy with it. Six points from two nights is fantastic, we’ve really put the pressure on and let’s see if we can get something tomorrow.”
BUILDBASE BEES 51: Chris Harris 15+1, Kenni Larsen 12, Scott Nicholls 10+2, Nick Morris 7+1, Ryan Fisher 6+3, Todd Kurtz 1, Przemek Pawlicki R/R.
EASTBOURNE 42: Joonas Kylmakorpi 12, Bjarne Pedersen 10, Cameron Woodward 9+1, Simon Gustafsson 7, Lewis Bridger 3+1, Timo Lahti 1, Lukas Dryml R/R.
