Make the most of it. I'm sure that someone has an idea of how many more seasons there will be but we can't be too far away from the end although I thought that there had to be an alternative for existing users such as the speedway? Policy LP36: East of England Showground said (not sure if Draft Peterborough Local Plan of June 17 was agreed and/or modified on 24 July 2019) "The loss of any existing leisure and sports facilities will not be supported unless replacement facilities are provided in accordance with policy LP30" LP30 page 80New plan unveiled to build homes and leisure facilities on Peterborough’s East of England Showground to create 400 plus jobsThe showground owner, the East of England Agricultural Society, has announced it has entered into a land promotion agreement with Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG) to develop and enhance the 165 acre site. The move is expected to pave the way for the development of homes and public leisure facilities which could create more than 400 jobs. A masterplan for the residential development is being drawn up and an outline planning application is expected to be submitted to Peterborough City Council next spring. Alistair Beattie, interim chief executive of the East of England Agricultural Society, said, “The end of the three-day agricultural show in 2012 meant that the showground was no longer essential to the future of the Society. “Our alliance with AEPG allows the development of the leisure facilities and wider site, leaving the Society to focus on its charitable aims of promoting agriculture, education, and rural life. “This collaboration with AEPG will enable us to develop our initiatives and engage with other organisations to deliver tangible outcomes, such as our association with Anglia Ruskin University, Peterborough, on the content of agriculture-related educational courses. “The Society is delighted to support the continued operation of the East of England Arena as a centre for events in the city and the region, and we are excited by AEPG’s proposals for new leisure facilities on the site. He added: “The Trustees of the Society were keen to avoid the loss of this important amenity which is an asset to the City of Peterborough and the retention of employment on the site.” Ashley Butterfield, chief executive of AEPG, which specialises in the creation of mixed-use residential and leisure developments, said: “We’re thrilled to have entered into an alliance with the East of England Agricultural Society to enhance the site as a new destination to live in the city with an exceptional leisure and events offer at its heart. “This will create enormous benefits for people living and working in Peterborough. “The site has vast potential. “AEPG plans to create a considered development with leading-edge leisure facilities for the local community as well as the wider public. “It is expected this will create in excess of 400 jobs. “AEPG’s team are preparing a master plan for a new type of housing development that will combine a unique lifestyle with aspirational homes set within a beautiful, landscaped environment. “A planning application will be submitted in the Spring 2022 for a scheme that is in accordance with the site allocation and policies of the 2019 adopted local plan.“We will be consulting about our plans before they are finalised, and a planning application is submitted and look forward to sharing updates as the plans develop.” Peterborough Today, Thursday, 9th September 2021. anyone see speedway mentioned?

Here we are Rodders, probably the most important thread on the board but no interest whatsover, should be deleted by right - we need a Flappy Anyway, with it sounding a bit like one change to fill the gap, the borospeedway Christmas quiz for all is when do you expect the the first of the seven exciting surprise announcements to be made? With a special bonus prize if you correctly guess the first and last named which has everyone on tenterhooks.

We have survived much longer than expected, since housing first appeared on The Showground. For years we have finished a season unsure if we’ve seen our last Peterborough meeting. Somehow we have always been saved, often very much against the odds. Poor management and lower league Speedway led to poor crowds but last seasons success proved the interest is still there with some good attendances. Unfortunately you can’t stop the Bulldozers.

Not lack of interest , so many conflicting opinions over the years , to the extent that we just have to wait and see As we have done for many years. Dunton, Hawkins, Wing, Jarvis, Oakes, Lynch, Horton Brothers, Rathbone with Watson, Buster - just off the cuff, sure there were others. The positive, after so many troubled times is we are The PL champions. Who would have thought it. It’s always the time of year for wait and see.

It's opinions, guesswork and rumour that create the interest though. The BSF thread is up to 18 pages of wait and see and inevitability, but they also know nothing! We've now cracked 7 posts, although there isn't many of us to be fair We can't stop the bulldozers that's true but I don't think bulldozers have ever been the type of threat that they are now. The sell off and building has been on the EoES outskirts and it's been more a case of finding someone who could afford to competently run at the EoES whose surname didn't end in H (please be upstanding). That's all changed over the last couple of years and the end is in fact nigh and potentially very near (unless someone knows different). I've missed two speedway seasons and haven't particularly missed it which is the sad part. Dad's Army and a 6 team league didn't inspire me in 2021. I'd just got out of the habit and circulation generally, working at home 24/7 and it also never fitted looking after my sick dog which has been tiring all year. Hopefully I'll get some of my enthusiasm back for 2022 (probably need to as 2023 & beyond potentially has a big question mark against it) even though it looks like it will be virtually same as all round in terms of team and league. It's good that the crowds were good. The atmosphere did seem much improved on the media that I watched (been banging on about air horns (or lack of) for years. Good to see that someone twigged the cause and effect. Rodders commented on the improved presentation and he was there we'll take that as read and another positive. Hopefully that all continues and works in our favour when the big decisions are being made in the not too distant future.

Looks like Sheffield are going for a Panthers 2011 option of one balloon bursting announcement?
And here it is, a blast from the past. I remember this getting as positive a reaction on the BSF as did the Panthers 2021 team. That time they were right though as we gave Swindon their title winning side :PETERBOROUGH have announced a new-look team which will line-up to challenge for the 2012 Elite League title. It’s almost all-change from 2011 as Panthers bosses look to maintain their consistent form at the Showground but also gather important Elite League points on the road, where their challenge faltered this year. Panthers have built a team that has scoring power all down the order and in a further show of their Championship intentions they have also revealed that highly-respected former Danish team manager Jan Staechmann will be joining the management set-up in a joint role with current team boss Trevor Swales. Leading the Panthers on the track will be Grand Prix star Kenneth Bjerre who returns to the East of England Showground after a one-year loan spell with King’s Lynn. And also joining him after a loan period with the Norfolk club is his younger brother Lasse, who will sharing a doubling-up position with club asset Rene Bach. Retained from the 2011 side are popular Swede Linus Sundstrom who made massive strides in his first season in the top flight, and hot Dane Michael Jepsen Jensen will fill one of the reserve spots after impressing during a short spell in the red and black this year. The other reserve position will be shared between two emerging British stars – Richard Lawson and Kyle Newman. Lawson displayed great improvement in a similar squad role in 2011, whilst Newman also gained Elite League experience with parent club Poole. Completing the much-changed Peterborough side will be Olly Allen and Jesper B Monberg. Allen joins on loan from Coventry having ridden for Ipswich and King’s Lynn in recent seasons, having started his racing career at the Showground with the Peterborough Thundercats back in 1997. Experienced Dane Monberg, meanwhile, also makes a Showground comeback following his Elite League Championship winning campaign with the Panthers in 2006. The revamped team totals fractionally below the 41.00 points limit and has been given the thumbs-up from the Showground club bosses. Swales said: “We all know what happened last season, we just weren’t good enough away from home, and that’s why we missed out on the play-offs. This year we’ve built a team which we think and hope is going to challenge for some away wins, and we certainly want consistency home and away. “We’ve built so many possible teams over the past two months or so, and to keep Michael at reserve was of paramount importance. We’re all of the opinion that he is going to be a trump card there for us. “We did look very long and hard at a number of choices, and one of the big reasons we’ve gone the way we have is purely because it leaves Michael at reserve. We’ve gone for an out-and-out No.1 instead of a No.1 and No.2, we have a clear No.1 along with what we feel is a terrific reserve and plenty of strength in depth in the middle order. “It’s also going to be terrific working with someone of Jan’s experience in the sport, and hopefully we can all go forward and have a really good season.” Co-promoter Julie Mahoney added: “We look to have a very solid team on track, but we’re all particularly pleased that Jan (Staechmann) has agreed to join us. “He has a wealth of experience which will enhance our management team and it’s also encouraging that he turned down other offers as the Panthers were always his first choice. “It will be an entirely joint role with Trevor (Swales) and we’re sure the two of them will work well together as they bring different things to the role. “Trevor works so hard on various things away from the track and to be honest we couldn’t run the club without him. So-much-so we will be applying for a promoters licence for him, so he’ll be able to further assist us, subject to his application being ratified by the BSPA.” Staechmann said: “Joining Peterborough is a very exciting step for me, and getting to work with such a professional club is something I am looking very much forward to. “I have had a good relationship with the promotion, and there has always been a good atmosphere whenever I have visited the Showground in recent years, as opposing team manager. “I also look very much forward to working with Trevor Swales whom I have always got on great with, and I know all the riders, so hopefully we can hit the ground running. “We have put together an exciting team that is brimming with potential, and can't wait to get started.” 2012 PETERBOROUGH PANTHERS (starting averages in brackets):Kenneth Bjerre (9.06) Linus Sundstrom (6.90) Olly Allen (6.31) Lasse Bjerre/ Rene Bach (5.25/ 5.15) - Doubling-up Jesper B Monberg (5.02) Michael Jepsen Jensen (5.00) Richard Lawson/ Kyle Newman (3.00/ 3.00) – Doubling-up As in 2021 though reserves win matches as MJJ does an Ostrich as Panthers complete a 6 fingers double on a nice evening at Saddlebow Road in 2012:PETERBOROUGH completed a very successful Good Friday with an Elite League double over local rivals King's Lynn. And for the second time in the day Michael Jepsen Jensen produced a great performance as the Readypower Panthers ended their long unwanted run without an away win. The talented Dane romped to a 17-point haul which helped his team to their first league victory away from the Showground for over a year. Super Swede Linus Sundstrom also enjoyed his best pay night of the season so far with a healthy 12+3 contribution and the evening also ended on a positive note for skipper Kenneth Bjerre who had suffered a nightmare day with mechanical problems. Following on from his four-point return at the Showground in the afternoon he had a similar torrid time with just two-points from three rides before being surprisingly nominated for the last race decider. But with the scores locked at 42-42 he produced the goods when it mattered as he stormed to a last race 5-1 with Sundstrom to send the Panthers supporters’ home happy. It followed a tense and exciting night of racing as Panthers led 16-8 after just four races, but the Stars soon fought back to level after Heat 7. Peterborough responded to go 33-27 ahead following a maximum from Jensen and Sundstrom in Heat 9, only for the Norfolk men to draw level again and take it to a last race climax. But Bjerre and Sundstrom held their nerve in the decider and finished the night with a stunning maximum against the Stars pairing of Maciej Janowski and Niels-Kristian Iversen. A delighted Panthers co-boss Jan Staechmann said afterwards: “Michael has had a fantastic day and there was also some other good individual performances, but to be honest the whole day was a real team effort. “Everyone had a part to play and they all mucked in and helped each other out if they had a problem. We are building a great team spirit here. “Kenneth has had a difficult day with mechanical problems but we know what he is always capable of which is why we decided to put him in Heat 15. “And the decision paid off as he made a super start when the pressure was on and his 5-1 with Linus has won us the match. “It's a great start to our Elite League season after going all last year without an away win. “We've put that right on opening night and we now look forward to what will be another big test at Lakeside next Friday.” KING’S LYNN 43: Niels-Kristian Iversen 9+1, David Howe 8+1, Mads Korneliussen 7+1, Kevin Wolbert 7, Maciej Janowski 6+2, Daniel Nermark 5+2, Filip Sitera 1 PETERBOROUGH 47: Michael Jepsen Jensen 17, Linus Sundstrom 12+3, Olly Allen 5, Kenneth Bjerre 5, Jesper B Monberg 4+2, Richard Lawson 3+1, Lasse Bjerre 1 source Panthers website

PETERBOROUGH fans can expect news of the team to defend their Premiership title soon.
Now the dust has settled on a stunning season of racing at the East of England Arena, club bosses are almost in a position to reveal their 1-7.
It has already been confirmed the Premiership will remain at six clubs with a 39-point limit for six riders plus a rising star.
Both Dale Allitt and manager Rob Lyon have burnt the midnight oil piecing the team together with many of last season’s ‘Dads Army’ keen to return to Alwalton.
Allitt said: “Team building is ongoing, and we’re making good progress. We’d like to be able to announce the full team before Christmas if possible.
“Rob has identified that we would like to keep the same team as far as we can, and we are well underway with that work.
“We know how the fans took to the riders this year, that was very obvious, and we have a few things in mind on how we can carry that on into 2022, even though obviously Bjarne won’t be there next year.
“Hopefully we’ll be in a situation very soon where we can name riders, and our intention is also to release season ticket details for people to be able to buy in time for Christmas.”
Allitt has been in talks with several riders regarding joining the club to replace Bjarne Pedersen who has retired.
Meanwhile Allitt has also moved to clarify his role with both Panthers and King’s Lynn working for club owner Keith Chapman.
And he insists Lynn boss Alex Brady and Panthers counterpart Lyon have final say on the team they select.
He said: “All I can say is that by having Alex and Rob there, we have two team managers who are responsible for the teams, and both are very motivated and dedicated to what they do, and they want to win at all costs.
“They identify who they want rider-wise, and we talk it through, but they are responsible for the teams now. Obviously, we have parameters to work to with budgets and so on, because we won’t pay more than we can afford, but that’s how we now work.
“I don’t deny that mistakes have been made at all levels over the last 12 months, but this is the only way going forward, with the managers having full responsibility for who they want in the team.
“I’ve spent an awful of time with Alex at King’s Lynn to address the issues there, and likewise as Rob said recently, we spent hours and hours on the ‘phone going through permutations at Peterborough, so I’m heavily involved with both managers as sounding boards, but they have full control of their teams.”

What exactly is Dale’s role? He’s not named as a Promoter or Team Manager but is in talks with potential signings.

For next season I would try and fit in one rider, Ryan Douglas. Think his average is slightly too high to just replace BP so unfortunately maybe Ully. He is getting better every season, especially on the bigger tracks. Think he is lined up for Wolves, never understand why a rider with probable options chooses this small tight track is beyond me.

It’s fair enough giving the team that served so well a recall. My concerns are can Ully keep up that average after a long time out with a serious injury. Basso did a good job for Poole but he’s full throttle and first time in The PL. Don’t think we will have the same big points from reserve. Although they proved us all wrong last season. Sheffield looking the team to beat so far.

Oh dear. Up to 1,600 homes could be built on Peterborough’s Showground site as part of a multi-million pound transformation of the venue. - click to enlarge and then save as a piece of history before it becomes concrete. Details of the number of homes earmarked for the 165 acre Showground have been released by the Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG) as part of its leisure village-led development bid for the site in Alwalton. Ashley Butterfield, chief executive of AEPG, said it was hoped to submit two outline planning applications, plus a masterplan for the site, to Peterborough City Council in the spring. The first application will be for 650 homes - a number already allocated in the council’s Local Plan, which guides development in the city. The second application will include a further 950 homes, which do not figure in the Local Plan, plus a £15 million leisure village. It is planned to offer a range of affordable homes, Build to Rent properties, private rented, housing association and open market owner-occupancy. The details are outlined in a new document submitted to the council by AEPG requesting an environmental screening opinion for the development that was first revealed in September but did not include the number of homes planned. Mr Butterfield said: “The feedback to our proposals so far has been positive and I am confident the development will go ahead. “We feel the density and design of the homes plans works. “We are hoping that development work will get under way in during 2023/2024.” However, the focal point for the development will be a 50 acre leisure village that is expected to create 500 jobs. AEPG states its intention is to ‘transform’ the current primary focus of the Showground ‘from organised annual large scale outdoor events and functions, to a fully accessible facility providing internal activities comprising competitive socialising, health and wellbeing, leisure and recreation, cultural and tourism uses ... as one comprehensive leisure village.’ It states: “This will become the core of the community, and with the level of investment proposed, has already been described as a truly unique model for development, the like of which is unseen in the UK.” And it adds: “Showground uses will be retained in the interim until such time as investment to significantly enhance the range of facilities is economical.” The Arena has been home to the popular Peterborough Speedway track for many years but its future is not entirely clear. Mr Butterfield: “The speedway track is subject to discussions with the city council and the speedway organisers. I have spoken to the speedway organisers. It is under review.” Ward Councillor Julie Howell said: “The proposed number of houses is not permitted according to the Local Plan. “The last company that tried to create more housing than permitted was told no and this group will be told the same. “Residents do not object to a mixed development of houses and leisure, but expect transport infrastructure to be upgraded, roads made safe for pedestrians and green space to be a key feature. Cllr Howell added: “I feel very sorry for residents who have lost their views and we will fight for ever inch of green space. “The residents of Orton Southgate and Orton Northgate expect and accept that development will take place but will fight to protect and enhance the communities they have created here. “We’re very disappointed that these documents were submitted to the council and placed on the council’s planning portal without anyone speaking to local councillors, parish council and local residents first. She said: “I ask the company to put that right at its earliest opportunity and to work hard to get residents on side to ensure the development is as successful as it possibly can be.” Peterborough Today 30/12/21

Up to 1,600 homes could be built on Peterborough’s Showground site as part of a multi-million pound transformation of the venue. peterboroughtoday 30/12/21 Looks like the beginning of the end to me. Greed and Avarice normally prevail. Not enough Speedway enthusiasts to have a view worthwhile considering.if promoters are interested in Speedway continuing Should be looking for alternative venues now!!! those responsible for the proposed development, do not seem to show a great enthusiasm for Speedway

This looks likes the final countdown. A rented Speedway track is nothing to such a multi million development. We had better enjoy it while we still can. The only distant hope is we have been saying that for several years.

Just read this on the ET website under this years Sports Personalities likely Team of the Year, by Alan Swann.
Now in my early days on this paper I was once sent to watch Panthers (as a punishment I think). It was tedious beyond belief. More unbearable than being trapped in a lift with Shane Warne and the rest of tbe useless Aussie cricket commentators.
But I watched both Grand Final fixtures against Belle Vue in the summer and the excitement and tension was a thrill to behold.
But the two city sporting heavyweights were up against some high-achieving amateur teams with Peterborough Town Cricket Club’s seven trophies between first and second XI a unique achievement at Bretton Gate. Town haven’t lost a Northants Premier Division match for two seasons.
And Milton Golf Club’s junior team would be hot favourites to win in a less competitive year. They represented the club, Northants, the Midlands and England in the Home International Championships which they duly won in front of the Sky TV cameras.
Netherton United ladies also deserve praise for reaching the second round of the Women’s FA Cup for the first time in their history.
But for me PETERBOROUGH PANTHERS shade it in an exceptional year for our teams.
Now that’s something I have never seen before, Alan Swann enjoying his speedway.
