12/12/21 - the day that F1 became speedway Best quote today: it's like being 3-0 down with a minute to go, stopping for injury when your player goes down and then the ref deciding that next goal wins - just click on watch on youtube to watch the highlights. Sorry that you have to suffer the adverts

The one I heard on TS was it’s like being 7-0 down, the losing side get a last penalty that would count as 8. I heard that second hand. It was from the Talksport bloke who does the sport slot on Julia Hartley-Brewer so all in the same ballpark. When I wrote that I did think that a penalty analogy whereby the penalty was a winning score did seem more appropriate. It was very individual speedway though as what goes on in the meeting itself is pretty incidental when one race decides it because they want the big finish. For instance, Speedway Of Nations Final 2021, Team GB win one race (arguably luckily?) to be world champions but score less points at home over 2 days than Poland and Denmark.

A photographer was killed today when a huge pile of cheddar fell on him. To be fair, the people being photographed did try to warn him. Dad Jokes.

Sad but not surprised that in the blink of an eyelid the previous thread has gone , although it had taken months of planning . Thanks Riggers for your help , will likely delete next week and retain my memories. My fault I fear in thinking that anybody would be remotely interested . That is my smile for the day.

We've been there before Rodders. If you're only going to do something for feedback then you're not going to do anything. This board wouldn't exist if that was the criteria. I've been doing this for over a decade and since the heady days of the Frost years when I got wrapped up in others' agendas, the forum just treads water. We struggle for a dozen members and 3 or 4 regular contributers. Sometimes you have to just do things for yourself. It's a unique thread and open to the world in memory of your brother. I'm not sure why you'd want to delete that. It's always there and doing no harm. You could always send the URL to the family. They could even register and add a comment. Now then, Facebook loves that sort of stuff. You'd get likes and comments galore for that sort of content. Social media is just about using the right platform to hit the right audience if your requirement is likes.

Don’t feel like that Rodders. Riggers did a great job adding the pictures. I have viewed them several times. 300 people attended the funeral says a lot about your brother. Both Riggers and I did respond to your post in August regarding the one year Anniversary of your sad sudden loss. Just because people don’t always reply doesn’t mean they don’t care.

And to lighten it up again. It seems that after one attempt at keeping the Golden Globes going after Gervais finished hosting, it went on Zoom last night under the guise of Covid although there is a bit more to it Other best lines I recall: The Golden Globes to The Oscars are what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton Well you say you're woke: if ISIS started a streaming service then you'd call your agent

Bringing this topic to the fore again in case anyone reluctant to post due :to my outburst re my brother No worries Rodders. Fully understand your emotional reaction. Agree, let’s leave this thread to the smile page.

Bringing this topic to the fore again in case anyone reluctant to post due to my outburst re my brother It'd take a lot more than that Rodders. Letting off a bit of steam never hurt anyone as long as it's not getting personal. This is clearly personal to you particularly and I hope that my previous post clarified why this isn't the place if your looking for a big reaction (or in fact any reaction all too often) and you often have to just do it for yourself. And on a lighter note from Arkwright (Open All Hours) - his thoughts on retirement: "It might be ok for a while but I wouldn't want to earn my living at it"

Simple but effective. A bit of Tim Vine to brighten up a Monday Funny bloke but can't be doing too much with that sort of delivery. It doesn't work for me. It's ok for a couple of jokes then I lost interest. I was trying to watch Stewart Francis "Pun Gent" on Prime but within a few puns I was off. How the hell do people sit through that for an hour or however long it takes. Vine did make me chuckle in NGO though

I like Tim Vine, yes cheesy comedy but that’s what makes him funny, also the way he delivers it. Always enjoyed Stu Francis puns, watched him live at The Cresset, excellent. As was Jimmy Carr. Sorry but couldn’t raise a single chuckle for your NGO clip - can’t get into most of these comedy type series. Unless it’s OFAH, The Young Ones, Bottom etc… My all time fave comedian is Mickey Flanagan, absolute comedy genius. It’s all about opinions.

We have some common ground in OFAH, The Young Ones, Bottom etc… although we'd probably disagree on the etc. Otherwise it indeed looks like we're miles apart because I wouldn't cross the road to watch those three named. It's a good job that we don't all like the same. I do like Flanagan though. I don't think that I've got a favourite individual comedian.

Doubt we’re miles apart on the older comedy generation, Dave Allen, Jasper Carrott, The Two Ronnie’s, Morecambe and Wise. I also found The Inbetweeners very funny but it’s definitely not something I could watch with my Mum, she would be horrified The one I just don’t get is Mrs Browns Boys - absolutely awful and totally unfunny to me. As you allude, it’s all about taste.

It really is quite amazing how people differ on taste and opinion. A good friend of mine and ex work colleague always loved my sense of humour. She would laugh at my quips all day. Yet she also thought Mrs Brown was hilarious. Therefore forced the box set on me. Didn’t even get to half of the first episode. Absolute rubbish in my opinion. Whatever floats your boat.

Beginning to think Mrs Brown quite funny , but it is certainly not Irish. Remember a series in the sixties starring I think Milo O'Shea called "The Mammy" now that was Irish !!!
Must say IMO the bloke who plays Mrs Brown is an insufferable pain in the bum.
PS
The term Mammy is very Irish and I was very upset when my mother died and I told the florist what to put on the card and it got translated to Mummy, when flowers arrived.

Have travelled to Ireland many many times for work purposes. Their accent is so strong but started to pick it up. They all use Mammy or Mummy, which became an in joke in regular hotels. It’s the lingo, as you know. Maybe they thought it’s the correct Irish translation - but understand they should respect your wording request.
