Missed a winner yesterday due to my 2013 iPad playing up and occupying my time causing me to ignore the racing, although I tend not to look at less than 8 runner races: Betway Handicap Newcastle 4th January 2022 3pm Going: Standard - Distance: 2m 0f 56y - Runners:7 1 (7) Riggsby 3/1 2 (3) Mouse Doctor 8/1 3 (2) Three Platoon 5/2 Fav 4 (5) Mukha Magic 11/4 5 (1) Manjaam 22/1 6 (6) Magellan 100/1 7 (4) Thibault 11/2

Had a brief interest in Horse Racing in 1960's and 70's mainly through my friend Steve who sadly died back end of last year. We devised two systems that seemed to work , but our best results came from Sporting Chronicle and Sporting Chronicle Handicap Book, also something called winners on the clock by Split Second. Once had Timeform Black Book which if I recall gave me a long odds winner of St Leger with Foggy Bell ridden by Sandy Barclay in middle to late sixties. Think it also gave me Snow Knight in The Derby circa 1973/74. If I recall was particularly broke at the time and sold a lot of my paper back books and put the proceeds on Snow Knight which won at something like 20/1. Also recall a horse called Morgans Pride winning at 50/1 having been napped by Split Second.

Not sure if I fancy the 3/1 on offer? Certainly wouldn't take shorter. Just got my money back on Greatest Star e/w at Warwick so may just watch this one and try to increase my account funds tomorrow. Currently on a good streak and just playing with Boylesports' money: Chelmsford City 19:15 oddschecker VerdictThe key to this contest could be the rematch between Winklevi (first) and KINDERFRAU (second) where a neck separated them at Wolverhampton last month. Preference is for the latter here, though, courtesy of a 1lb pull at the weights and the potential for improvement over this longer distance. The veteran Berrahri must be considered on the back of a gutsy victory here last month, while Riggsby is on a roll, having won his last two at Newcastle for which he has been raised a total of 6lb. Prediction: 1st Kinderfrau, 2nd Riggsby, 3rd Winklevi Thorney trainer Pam Sly has two at Wetherby today:oddschecker Verdict 2.12 It's not easy to look past course specialist FRANSHAM, who had jumped well and had still to be asked for an effort until unseating four out over C&D last month (Cornerstone Lad well beaten). Prior to that, Pam Sly's gelding had travelled strongly to open his chase account from a 3lb lower mark and his current rating remains there to be exploited at his favourite venue. Experienced campaigners Hollywoodien and Destined To Shine each shaped with encouragement after lengthy layoffs last month and could prove most troublesome. Prediction: 1st Fransham, 2nd Hollywoodien, 3rd Destined To Shine oddschecker Verdict 2.47 Credible cases can be made for experienced C&D winner Haafapiece, as well as Benson, who hasn't been disgraced in some deeper handicaps recently, and likeable dual-purpose performer Solo Saxophone, who wasn't beaten far over C&D last time out. For all that, Ann Duffield's recent Irish import GLENTRUAN stepped up on all known form to dead-heat with the progressive Foster'sisland over a slightly longer trip at Ayr last month and a 5lb rise may not be enough to anchor him with improvement in the tank. Prediction: 1st Glentruan, 2nd Solo Saxophone, 3rd Haafapiece

Barney Curley loses it Heard McCririck wasn’t very popular in the horsey world. Picked up from the gutter on more than one occasion. This clip reminds me of Peeky Blinders

Peterborough running today but probably one to watch rather than risk any money. It is spotform in the Daily Mirror and attracting some support but I'll not be risking it.
Kelso 15:20 Derrick John Allison Memorial Handicap Chase (3/2/22)
Forecast Prices: Lucky Flight 2/1, Dubai Days 3/1, Peterborough 11/2, Pitempton Power 4/1, Sword Of Fate 5/1
oddschecker Verdict
LUCKY FLIGHT may not need to improve much from a gallant runner-up effort over C&D in December to claim the spoils off what remains a mark 5lb lower than his last success. Never outside the first two in four starts at the track, Lucinda Russell's charge is preferred to the likes of Dubai Days, who is likely to need further, and Pitempton Power, who disappointed when going in search of the hat-trick last month. Peterborough is another who is well handicapped on old form.
Prediction: 1st Lucky Flight, 2nd Dubai Days, 3rd Pitempton Power
RACING TV VERDICT Competitive despite the small field with the narrow vote in favour of PETERBOROUGH. A three-time winner over fences in 2020, there have been positives to glean from his hurdle exploits in recent months and from an easing mark he may well be ready to strike back over the larger obstacles. Dubai Days arrives in good order and is feared, along with Lucky Flight.

My eyes were drawn, for obvious reasons, to this one running tomorrow:
I just missed 8/1 Abnaa at Newcastle so don't fancy doing this if it's shorter than 3/1 as it looks like it could be.
Kempton - Wednesday 17:30
oddschecker Verdict
Raihaan has shown very little since arriving from Germany, but he drops back to a mile now and may yet be well handicapped if Gary Moore can get the best out of him. One Step Beyond ran on well when third at Lingfield last month and the gelding has to be of interest, but FACT OR FABLE could be the one. Two of his three career wins have been over C&D, including last time out when scoring by a neck, despite a troubled passage, and he could strike again off a 1lb higher mark.
Prediction: 1st Fact Or Fable, 2nd One Step Beyond, 3rd Raihaan
RTV TIMEFORM VERDICT
ONE STEP BEYOND is now 2 lb below his last winning mark and, on the back of a promising effort at Lingfield last time, he now looks poised to strike with headgear back on. Dynakite and Fact Or Fable look to be the main dangers.

And on a similar musical vein:
Chelmsford City 7.30
One Night of Queen 2nd June Handicap (6) (D.I) (Class 6) (Polytrack)
RTV/TIMEFORM VERDICT
BOY GEORGE is proven over C&D and he has a consistent profile, so he gets the nod in a trappy event. Lenny's Spirit should appreciate the return to this trip and has to be feared. Crazy Spin looks the next best alternative.
Doesn't get a mention on oddschecker and is drifting in the betting so best to look at later tomorrow afternoon:
oddschecker Verdict
CRAZY SPIN returned to winning ways here last Friday when benefiting from a first-time visor and Ivan Furtado's mare could back that performance up if the headgear has the same desired effect. Pips Tune scored over C&D last month and he is capable of another decent showing, while Ballybaymoonshiner, who disappointed at Kempton last time, may bounce back to form with blinkers applied.
Prediction: 1st Crazy Spin, 2nd Pips Tune, 3rd Ballybaymoonshiner for me

Huntingdon Thursday 13:00 (Join Racing TV Now Handicap Hurdle)
no.4 - William Cody: Trainer Mrs P Sly (Thorney Trainer), Jockey: Paul O'Brien
Placed in two hurdle races and a NH flat race from seven starts. Beaten 1/2l by Thirtyfourstitches when second of 5 at 13-2 on his latest outing in a hurdle race at Fakenham over 2m 4f (good to soft) last month.
Would be wanting 5/1 or bigger for an e/w bet. Possibly might just get that?
Forecast Prices: Pilsdon Pen 11/4, Step To The Top 3/1, Doireann 11/2, William Cody 6/1, Samatian 14/1, Hurricane Dylan 16/1, Priory Wood 16/1, North Star Oscar 15/2, Gino Wotimean 20/1, Constant Friday 20/1
oddschecker Verdict
William Cody got within half a length of success when second at Fakenham last time and seemed to improve for the step up to this sort of trip there, but he may struggle to fend off PILSDON PEN. Jeremy Scott's gelding was a good winner at Wincanton two starts ago and certainly wasn't stopping when just missing out over 2m3f at Fontwell last time. The extra two furlongs here could bring about further improvement. Doireann has filled the runner-up spot on her last two outings and could go well, while North Star Oscar may have dropped to a more feasible mark.
Prediction: 1st Pilsdon Pen, 2nd William Cody, 3rd Doireann

3rd day of Cheltenham and I'm in front of the bookies thus far. Had one bet: £1 e/w on a 20/1 that finished 3rd. Thought that I'd be more interested now that I'm not working but actually more disinterested. I just like all the bread and butter racing stuff without needing to watch the freeloaders tell me how wonderful Cheltenham is. Thankfully I don't listen to Talksport so don't have to suffer whether piss head Brazil is surviving the week or being told umpteen times that they are in the Coral box (assume that they are on the promotional freebie as per usual).
When a horse has a crashing or tired fall why do they always state first that the jockey is up? They are choosing the job and the risks, I don't think the horse particularly wants to jump fences when knackered. My first interest is the horse's welfare.

Not that interested in gambling, as said before. Couldn’t even find a name at Cheltenham to put my £1 on. Never do e/w - win or bust for a quid. So didn’t win or lose anything. Never a fan of P- head Brazil on TalkSPORT but since he’s changed to two morning’s and a very obvious life changing warning, he appears a changed man. He finally completed every morning without any obvious hangovers. Parlour seems to have taken his crown. Both coming to a city near you soon.

I was £3 up and had a 20p e/w round robin on Thursday in races paying extra places and I didn't even get a sniff so went £1 down. At that point I lost interest for the week. All or nothing for a quid is fine but my starting point is have some fun but try not to lose your money. If places fulfil that objective then job done. For any real students who didn't look further than Mullins & co then there was money to be made for the hardened gambler. I look at Racing TV and their tips most days. Basically, it's their job but they haven't been able to pick their nose either. RTV used to show number of tips and how much in credit the tipster was but they've been so shocking for a while now that they've stopped showing that Brazil and Parlour - what a shocking evening - lucky Peterborough.

The truth be known I don’t really understand most of these Horsey bets but a £1 on the nose is okay by me. Getting your quid back from an e/w bet does seem a a little pointless. I’d rather lose the pound risking a bigger win from a small stake. That shocking evening with Brazil & Parlour would also set you back £36pp. Think I could find much better value elsewhere.
